I have decided to look at architecture for my next genre in photography. I have chosen architecture
as it is very different to fashion photography and looks at totally different materials and includes
different characteristics. In the early years of photography, few if any photographers were specialists
in any area other than commercial portraiture, which was the main area in which a living could be
made from the new medium. Early photographers did fairly often photograph buildings, often
working from the window of a convenient room rather than at street level.

Even thought the photo only consists of blue, it is made up of lots of different shades of blue.
The lights on the building and around it stand out because they are a bright colour. I think the way
the sea blue colour merges into the deep blue/black colour of the background works really well.
The photograph doesn't really have a story to it, as there isn't much going on, it doesn't have
energy or any movement to it at all. However it could easily be a scene used in a film, such as an
establishing shot. The photo has a certain peaceful feel to it. It is soothing to look at; this is because
it is a calm, quiet setting– you can almost feel your presence there, staring into the beautiful view. I
think the reason that the photo has such a positive, relaxing feel to it is down to the fact that the
composition of the photo reminds you of a deep blue sea or a clear black sky. The photo has strong
verticals and horizontal, which emphasise a static feel and the negative space.
The picture has a large depth of field with the two buildings the centre point of it. Only natural
lighting is used for this photo, therefore getting the exact time of day right would have been essential.

photos to make a difference, like Lewis W. Hine. He used photography to help bring an end child
labor. Lewis Hine was hired by the National Child Labor Committee "to travel around the country

Have you ever taken a picture or been looking through a photo album and felt a sudden rush of
emotion? Do you wonder what caused that emotion? Many find themselves captivated by a
photograph and overwhelmed by the emotions that the photograph arouses. Believe it or not the

When talking about emotion it seems a fairly simple topic and immediately "feeling" words come to

What is a photograph? The simplicity of taking a photograph leads many to ponder its artistic value.
Yet, it is undeniable that there are some photos that cause an emotional reaction deeper than simply
observing a recorded point in time. Surely, there are photographs that cause more reaction than some
modern art pieces. There seems to be two types of photographs. The first classification is the 'time
capture' photo – an image with the sole purpose of recording a particular event or point in time. The
second nature of a photo carries a 'deeper meaning,' which has the ability to change the observer's

There is clearly an artistic value to this image – it is taken at the location of a massacre of over 200
members of the Great Sioux Nation. However, did Elliot Erwitt intend a 'deeper meaning' for this
photograph? In an interview recorded on his official website, Erwitt declares, "If it turns out to be
entertaining what I do, I'm very pleased. But it's not conscious." It seems that Erwitt claims to not
possess artistic intent in his photographs. However, it is clear that he simply boasts an
unconscious artistic eye. It is obvious that the photograph of this church on hallowed ground falls
in the 'deeper meaning' category. The second Elliot Erwitt photo is taken from his official
webpage. It too is captured in black and white. The photo, shown in Figure 2 was taken in France
and depicts a man and child riding a bicycle down a road lined with trees. This seems to be a 'time
capture' photo; this particular event can never be perfectly replicated again. Despite the category in
which this photo clearly falls into, it is undoubtedly still art – the setting is too perfect to be
unintentional. However, according to Erwitt in his interview, unintentional is exactly the correct
word. Erwitt states, "I take pictures of anything that interests me as I walk around with my camera."

photograph class I attend now I cannot take a picture for I think it will be a good image. To my

My passion for photography began in High School, from the moment I walked into Photography
1, I was in love. I seemed to have a good eye when it came to landscape and animal photography,
after hours of taking photos I would then spend hours in the dark room developing. For me,
photography has been no more than just a hobby. I admire all professional photographers, especially
those who specialize in newborn photography, because I envy them. I found Jessica Kennedy, of
Jessica Rachel Photography, on Facebook. Her style and ability to take beautiful photographs
captured my eye instantly. I did, what most people do, and followed her. I am always amazed
when her pictures display on my newsfeed, especially the newborns, I just can't help but look.
Kennedy's loved for photography started with an obsession with her taking pictures of her children
and turned to photography as a hobby. Then with a gifted DSLR (Digital Single–Lens Reflex) camera
she started researching classes in her area. She states "from there is snowballed", taking any
opportunity that came along to gain hands on experience. She started her business in 2011, and then
in 2016 her LLC (Limited Liability Company) business began. She started by advertising through
Facebook and 'word of mouth'. She feels social media is the easiest way to connect with clients,

In times, we often see things, but we don't really capture what is beyond it. In some cases, there
are people who are artistic and are prone to see what other's cannot visualize. Every individual has
a talent which can be expressed and processed differently. Something you see can mean entirely
divergent things to someone else;for example, some may see thing's that may seem simple, but in
the eyes of an artist, it can be perceived with a whole new definition, dimension, and a potentially

Everyday we were intellectually taught about the different principles of photography; for me it
wasn't a hassle to learn it; it was more of an excitement a new adventure.

Intentions
My genre of work is a mixture of sports photography and fashion photography, the reason for this is
because sports photography focuses on the drama and action in sports, this contrasts with fashion
photography as the photos mainly focuses on things such as clothing and makeup. The reasons i
chose this type of photography was because the conventions of sports photography is dramatic,
captured action and fashion photography is very over the top and colourful. I wanted to combine
these two genres to create a series of original images that combine sports and fashion. I was
inspired by the work of Jake Hicks because his work uses coloured gels to make the photos
colourful and stand out. I was also inspired by the work of Zach Ancell, mainly because he used to
be a division one track and field athlete, he then transitioned into sports photography which gave his
photos complexity in the way the athletes would pose. Jake Hicks photos sexualises women,
making them centre of the page and uses coloured gels to make the image more colourful so that it
would stand out, the reason he does this because he is a magazine photographer and he wants to
ensure potential audiences pick up the magazine featuring his photo rather than someone else whose
is much brighter and appeals more to the audience member, when you look at these photos the
model has to have some sort of trust or relationship with the photographer and have to be somewhat
submissive. Zach Ancell on the other hand, focuses on the strength of any athlete. The models aren't
sexualised to the extent that Jake Hicks models are. I think he Ancell does this to show that people
can be good looking without the need for pristine make–up or clothing. One thing both photographers
have in common is that they portray their models as fierce and confident.

When considering the planning for my photo–shoots I had to consider not only my artists, but
exposure, camera settings, the poses and what i want the main focus of the photo to be. When
planning my photo–shoots i also think about a practise shoot so i can be confident with the
equipment I'm using and the effects they have on the photo. I also want to know what my model is

mood and create a point of interest. Wind in trees, waves on a beach, water flowing over a
waterfall, birds flying over head, moving clouds make image nice.
Capturing this movement generally means you need to look at a longer shutter speed. This means
more light hitting your sensor which will mean you need to either go for a small Aperture, use
some sort of a filter or even shoot at the start or end of the day when there is less light.
8. Work with the Weather
A scene can change dramatically depending upon the weather at any given moment. So, choosing the
right time to shoot is of real importance. An overcast day threatening to rain might provide you with
a much better opportunity to create an image with real mood and ominous overtones. Look for
storms, wind, mist, dramatic clouds, sun shining through dark skies, rainbows, sunsets and sunrises
etc and work with these variations in the weather rather than just waiting for the next sunny blue sky

Definition Essay: What Is Photography?
The definition of photography means the process or art of producing images of objects on sensitized
surfaces. To me, photography means to capture the moments that are especially special to you and
your feelings. So basically pictures containing feelings and memories.
I first discovered photography when my mother brought a professional camera, the Canon EOS
Rebel SL1. The original purpose of the purchase was to take pictures of the adventures that my
family do together and take pictures of our troop, our scout mates. When I first grab the camera, I
started to take pictures. Furnitures, trees, flowers, and basically everything around the house. I
noticed of the little details the camera captured while I was revisiting the pictures i've taken

Evaluation Essay On Photography
Photography has always been a strong interest of mine, and I have decided to make a career
change, currently I do photography to share ideas and the beauty of the world with people this is a
subject that doesn't just motivate me but others as well.
Firstly I would evaluate my work and the question would be, is this work unique or just "personal"
photos without any unifying theme? If a collector would purchase a series of photographs on any of
my subjects in landscape, sports or macro photography, he most properly would buy the entire series
of images instead of a ones–off–piece, and it is difficult to make a profound statement with just one

Commercial photography is more in relation with editorial, promotion, weddings and advertising
this is photography with a little explanation to what is happening. The difference between
advertising and commercial photography would be the techniques and focus. To support yourself
as a fine art photographer is not that easy and there for you could focus on more then one type of
photography. The aim would be to one day see my photo on a photo shite wall of a gallery. The
question to myself is how do I get there from here? Commercial art are accustomed the be seen by
the art buyers as fine art, these buyers would be able to experience the photographers work on there
