Develop ideas on approach and requirements for the
production up-scaling of ultra high precision components.
Given the complexity of the products, the extreme
requirements in terms of product accuracy, roughness,
cleanliness, metrology and the challenge to start building
them into modules with complete testing, a detailed
analysis is needed to develop a clear path for growth.

Estimation of lifecycle loads on steerable thrusters.
An increasing amount of ships is being fitted with so-
called steerable (or azimuth) thrusters. The operating
environment (where utilised) and envelope (how utilised)
of these steerable thrusters have a significant impact on
the time between required overhauls. The assignment is
to gather and process data on how the currently installed
base of Wärtsilä steerable thrusters is being operated.
Over the course of the assignment, the team will be
expected to gather such data and to process it in a way
that provides an insight (possibly even down to an
individual vessel level) in the real loads and use of
Wärtsilä steerable thrusters.

Value Analysis and Value Engineering for cartoning
machines.
The assignment is a Value Analysis/Value Engineering of
our cartoning machines. The goal is to achieve one
platform for all cartoning machines, on top of which
customer specific solutions can be added, to create a
customer specific solutions. Standardization of
components and modules is an important issue. The
latest design change in Racupack's case packer can be an
example for the direction of the new design of the
cartoning machine!

and one of the leading fork lift
truck companies in the world.
Nijmegen is the world centre
for the development and
manufacturing of big trucks,
container handlers and reach
stackers.

Prevent loose parts to be shipped with a big truck.
Currently big trucks are being build up completely and
tested at the end of the manufacturing line. After final
testing and approval the truck is being prepared for
shipment. This means, with the sizes of the big trucks,
that some parts are disassembled. Besides the reason of
size of the lift truck and transport restriction smaller parts
are disassembled to prevent that they are stolen during
transport. Unfortunately parts that are transported
removed from the lift truck end up stolen or get lost.
Some temporary actions have been taken to get better
process on controlling loose parts, but a final solution still
needs to be found and implemented.
This project needs to be handled through the DMAIC
principles including a Project plan. Goal: No loose parts
that needs to be shipped with a disassembled lift truck.
