- In July of 2008, I was sitting at a cafeteria table on the Microsoft campus in Redmond Washington. I was part of the Xbox marketing team, and I sat at a table, waiting for my coworkers. Because, of course, I couldn’t spend even 5 minutes by myself, I was on my iPhone playing a game. This is remarkable for a few reasons. First, the app store had just come out. Meaning, just two weeks before, there was no such a thing as playing a game on an iPhone. Also, I was one of the few people at Microsoft to have an iPhone. It wasn’t forbidden, but it wasn’t encouraged.
