Belonging
“The urge to play with others, in addition to being fun, is often driven by
the desire to be accepted, to belong” ( The National Institute for Play,
2009).
Belonging
“Play serves as an arena in which children can progressively master the
social skills they need to experience a positive sense of belonging to their
peer group” (Scarlet, 2005, p.37).
Doing
Play can be facilitated through an endless range of resources.
Development of self capability through learning to blow the bubbles.
Doing
Purposeful and goal oriented activity of manipulation of tools and
resources.
Doing
The use of adaptations and interventions to help children with
disabilities experience a broader range of play activities, can help provide
opportunities to play.
Doing
The boy is participating playing a game of basketball with his peer. He is
included and he is capable.
Doing
Through having a turn on the swing, the student is participating in play-
development of value and self worth.
Doing
 Constructing and building allows children to understand how things go
together, what works and what doesn’t. This type of play is facilitated
through the use of resources such as blocks, lego. Learning balance.
Doing
Play through goal oriented activities, building with blocks to make a
castle.
Doing:
Play and learning through exploration of the environment .
Doing
Play through movement, rhythm and pattern such as dance or
hopscotch, provides a sense of emotional, creative, social and cognitive
connections.
Being
Children enjoy playing through exploration of creative activities.
Belonging
Play is established through mutual acceptance within a group of peers.
Belonging
Play and mutual support, children feel valued when there is a sense of
inclusion.
Belonging
The environment can facilitate inclusive play, where the child feels
valued.
Becoming
Children imagine and become all sorts of people when they play.
Becoming
Playing “princesses”.
Becoming
Children often set up their toys in scenarios they see in their daily lives,
replicating them in their play.
Belonging
Children use their imaginations to become “anyone” or go “anywhere”. It
is time out from routine, time where they can become whoever they
choose to be.
Becoming
Children develop and learn socially through playing games with each
other.
