2. Construction
• For the production process, I was using the DSLR Canon EOS 650D camera to
film for the music video
• Having previous practice with this camera, I was able to change certain thing In
the settings, in order to create high-definition footage
• For some scenes in the music video, the rule of thirds was applied e.g. In the
beginning of the music video when the artist is turned looking at the view.
• By using this technique with a high quality camera, it allowed me to make scenes
that are highly advanced and professional, meaning that the music video would
be benefited as it would look like a professional music video.
3. Construction
• Using the DSLR camera, allowed me to experiment more, to try and figure out more things
in order to make the scenes for the music video more interesting to watch. By
experimenting with the camera a couple of times, I was able to film unfocused shots. For
example, the trees in the park was filmed unfocused, I made sure to film whilst
experimenting, as the shots that I took could be used in the music video when we start to
edit, to which we did add these shots in.
• The camera was also used for taking a lot of pictures, which would be used for the
magazine advert and the 6 panel digipak, whilst taking these pictures I had to have a vision
of what it should look like, therefore certain images such as for the digipak cover, the artist
had to be in focus but the background was unfocused, allowing the audience to focus
primarily on the artist.
4. Editing
• The program I used for editing the music video was Final Cut Pro, I used
this program in order to add shots in, to make the music video flow in
the songs pace. Editing the raw footage, allowed me to carry out
continuity editing which is present in all music videos.
• Final cut pro allowed me to play around with all the special effects and
transitions to add to my music video. However, I did not use over the top
special effects or transitions as it wouldn't have conformed to a typical
indie/pop genre, therefore I only used the same subtle transition
throughout the music video. The only special effect that was used was
slow motion, this was because it connected well with the song as its
slow pace, otherwise if the footage was playing at its normal pace, the
whole video would be a bit odd. For example the performance shot
playing drums had the slow motion effect, this conforms to typical indie
music videos when having a performance shot.
5. • The magazine advert and digipak were both edited on Adobe
Photoshop, this allowed me to practice my skills on editing
images.
• The digipak was edited in a way to make the colours look
natural in order to fit with a typical convention of he genre
indie/pop.
• The digipak took the longest to edit out of the print products
as it consisted of choosing the fonts and colour, as well as
adding in the barcode on the back.
Editing
6. Editing
• As you can see the magazine advert looks much better after it was edited- colour was added
to it as well as titles in order to make it look like a realistic magazine advert, images such as
the Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube logos were used.
• Editing the digipak, made it much easier to edit the Magazine advert as from the skills I
learnt on Photoshop which I used for the digipak, I could now add that to the magazine
advert.
• For the magazine advert I had to add the same text to the magazine cover, as well as the
same colour scheme, to make it connect. I used similar effects to the magazine advert that I
used on the digipak, however, the magazine cover compared to the digipak is darker, this is
because where we first took the image, there wasn’t much light coming through whereas for
the digipak, lighting was much more brighter. I tried putting the brightness up on the
magazine advert however, the image didn't look good as it made it look unprofessional
Before After
7. Research
• The most common research that I carried out
was Audience feedback and focus groups, by
doing this I used Photo Booth on the IMacs to
record these videos, to which I then used Final
Cut pro again, in order to edit the footage I
took.
• Because I had experience editing on Final Cut
Pro, it was easy to take the footage from photo
booth of my research and add titles and
transitions to make them look interesting
rather than it being boring.
8. Animatic
• For our storyboard we had to draw out what we
wanted our music video to look like in each shot, after
we did this we scanned the images to the Macs and
edited them on Final cut Pro were we placed them I
order, to make it look like the music video, with the
amount of seconds for each shot.
• In terms of filming the actual music video, it allowed
us to have a proper visual aspect of what it should for
our real music video, as some such as the birds flying
was difficult to film as there wasn’t many birds out that
day.
• look like, instead of wasting time filming unnecessary
things, we filmed some of the shots form the animatic
9. Social Media
• Social media is the quickest and most effective way to find out information,
this helped me a lot with researching genres for my music video
• I had to use various sites such as twitter and Facebook to research the genre
of the music, for example I had to go on Ed Sheeran's twitter to see his fan
base in order to know what his target audience is as it gives me an idea on
who will be Maliki’s target audience, as they are of similar genres
10. • Researching about magazine adverts, consisted
of gathering all the information I had and
presenting it on a Prezi, the reason for this is
because it shows that I have been creative when
presenting my work.
• To gather more information about other artists I
had easy access to YouTube where I could take
notes on the particular artist and genre. Having
access to these videos, I could then link the
YouTube video onto Prezi, to clearly show where
I got the information from. Although it was a bit
tricky to add links in, I go the hang of it and It
made my research be presented much more
clearer. It also put YouTube video son to my
blogs to show the research I have made.
11. Audience feedback
• Having audience feedback for all of our products, was very important as we
needed to take in everything the audience said in order to ensure that each
product looks like real conventions of the genre indie/pop as well as looking
professional.
• The use of our our audience feedback was successful, as it allowed us to show
all our products to our target audience who were aged around 16-18. from the
feedback I gained a lot of positive feedback about each product however, their
were some negative comments on what we could have done better. For the
audience feedback everything had to be filmed on Photobooth where we then
edited on to Final cut pro, to which ended up posting it on our media blogs
• The reason I chose to use a video recording rather than just and audience
feedback was because it allowed me to show the audience their reaction rather
than just hearing their voice.
12. Blog Work
0 Using the blogs for presenting all my products as well as the research and
planning that took place, using blogger was a very easy way to do this as I
had easy access in posting everything.
0 One of my favourite posts were my genre research, this was because my
post was on the blogs to which I had a combination of adding links from
YouTube of other artists this allowed my research to look presentable
and show clearly what I am analysing. As a result from this I have learnt I
can add plenty of things to my blog work and therefore from other blog
posts such as my audience feedback, I have linked YouTube Videos in
order to construct my research and planning.
13. Planning
• The planning process was vital, in order to create the
best quality products. I constructed a mood board to
which allowed me to show the sense of ideas I had in
my mind to which all the image used could be used in
our products and allowed me to give me a visual idea
of what our music video would look like.
• Planning on what fonts to use for our digipak and
magazine advert needed a lot of planning as we
needed to decide what should be the boldest title so
the audience can easily take notice of it.
• Therefore I had to research other artists digipaks and
magazine adverts in order to get an idea on what our
digipak and magazine advert would look like for
example I research about Rihanna’s digipak
14. Evaluation
• For my evaluation 1, I used St marks media blogs to present my work in a
more simple form.
• My evaluation 2, I used Prezi to be more creative on my presentation
skills
• Evaluation 3 I used Microsoft PowerPoint, where I took screenshots of all
slides and pasted them on media blogs
• for my fourth evaluation I used Microsoft PowerPoint where I then
converted it into Slide Share and shared it on to my blogs.
