Question 2.

How does your media product

groups?
Different social groups.

Social Groups – The Vengeance. Interrogator.
Strong in her career
Independent
Opinionated
Self confident
We got the idea of a female interrogator
from the film Unthinkable which is a
thriller. Carrie-anne Moss is a female
interrogator. We also got the idea of the
office clothing from this film as it helps
express her character and attitude and
makes the person look much more formal.
Vocally I had to speak very directly and with confidence and
attitude when I played this role to help create the serious and
formal atmosphere. The setting was office like and very plain so
the main focus is what was being said.
When filming this scene the main focus was on me, this helps
express how I was the dominant role in the scene and that the
person who I was interviewing did not hold as much
importance. The angle which was used was a mid shot, this
helps show both body language and facial expressions. The
body language which I use for example, leaning forward when
talking, shows the seriousness in my words and how I am
trying to intimidate the suspect into admitting the truth. The
lighting is very focused on me and it is dull lighting around the
suspect, this helps show good verses evil and that the suspect is
the one in the wrong.
Victim.
•Vulnerable
•Naïve
•Independent
worker
•Feminine

We got the idea of a female victim from the thriller Sin City, Shellie who
plays the victim is verbally and physically abused by the villain Jackie
Boy, we included this in our film as we liked how vulnerable the
character was shown to the audience and the threat of danger created.
The clothing Katie wore was a floral dress, this helps
express the innocence and the vulnerability of the
character compared to the villain and interrogators
clothing which was much more formal and dark. By her
being dressed in pretty feminine clothes the action and
frightening scenes which happen to her come as more of
a shock and horror.
Vocally Katie speaks with a very stressed tone. This
helps express the pressure she is under and causes the audience to realise
that something is not correct about the John Mulberry case – building up
tension.
Mid shots are used on Katie who plays the victim as these shots so facial
expressions and body language clearly and the setting can be easily seen.
When using a high angle camera shot on her it connotates to the audience
that she is inferior and vulnerable, this helps reflect the character. The
low angle shot was also used with a tracking movement from a “cctv”
camera, this helps create the idea that she is being watched and her every
move is tracked. The lighting is always focused on Katie to show her
innocence and her vulnerability.
Villain.
• Dominant
•Villain
•Sly
•Ruthless
•Determined

We got the idea of a male villain from films such as James Bonds, Kill Bill and Flightplan.
We adapted this to our film as it makes the viewing more thrilling for the audience and it is
a convention of a thriller genre film. In Flight plan conspiracy is used which causes the
audience to doubt themselves as to who the villain is and puts questions in their heads. We
decided to adapt this into our narrative by making Alex’s face not visible to the audience.
This links in with Flightplan as the villains identity would not be revealed in the film.
The villain wore dark casual clothing which made him look like an ordinary citizen, this
helps show the villains intelligence and planning in the action he is about to do as he does

not want to be found guilty. We got this idea from Flight plan. These are all codes and conventions of a
thriller.
Alex does not have any dialogue in his on screen performance, this makes him seem much more mysterious
as the audience are left clueless to his identity.
The actions which he uses are very strong and aggressive, you also get the idea that he knows exactly what
he is looking for as he is seen walking towards the room and searching through papers, this shows how he is
clever in his planning and determined to find what he wants.
To express the villains determination and plan, point of view shots are used and hand held camera as this
shows movement and makes it feel more realistic.
High angled shots in a deep focus are used at one point when Alex watches Katie walk down the corridor,
this helps express his personality and his obsession with finding the files and getting away with it. The
setting is very plain and office like to show that it is set in an ordinary work place making what happens in
later scenes much more thrilling and unexpected.

Flightplan.

How does your media product represent particular social

  • 1. Question 2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
  • 3. Social Groups – The Vengeance. Interrogator. Strong in her career Independent Opinionated Self confident We got the idea of a female interrogator from the film Unthinkable which is a thriller. Carrie-anne Moss is a female interrogator. We also got the idea of the office clothing from this film as it helps express her character and attitude and makes the person look much more formal. Vocally I had to speak very directly and with confidence and attitude when I played this role to help create the serious and formal atmosphere. The setting was office like and very plain so the main focus is what was being said. When filming this scene the main focus was on me, this helps express how I was the dominant role in the scene and that the person who I was interviewing did not hold as much importance. The angle which was used was a mid shot, this helps show both body language and facial expressions. The body language which I use for example, leaning forward when talking, shows the seriousness in my words and how I am trying to intimidate the suspect into admitting the truth. The lighting is very focused on me and it is dull lighting around the suspect, this helps show good verses evil and that the suspect is the one in the wrong.
  • 4. Victim. •Vulnerable •Naïve •Independent worker •Feminine We got the idea of a female victim from the thriller Sin City, Shellie who plays the victim is verbally and physically abused by the villain Jackie Boy, we included this in our film as we liked how vulnerable the character was shown to the audience and the threat of danger created. The clothing Katie wore was a floral dress, this helps express the innocence and the vulnerability of the character compared to the villain and interrogators clothing which was much more formal and dark. By her being dressed in pretty feminine clothes the action and frightening scenes which happen to her come as more of a shock and horror. Vocally Katie speaks with a very stressed tone. This helps express the pressure she is under and causes the audience to realise that something is not correct about the John Mulberry case – building up tension. Mid shots are used on Katie who plays the victim as these shots so facial expressions and body language clearly and the setting can be easily seen. When using a high angle camera shot on her it connotates to the audience that she is inferior and vulnerable, this helps reflect the character. The low angle shot was also used with a tracking movement from a “cctv” camera, this helps create the idea that she is being watched and her every move is tracked. The lighting is always focused on Katie to show her innocence and her vulnerability.
  • 5. Villain. • Dominant •Villain •Sly •Ruthless •Determined We got the idea of a male villain from films such as James Bonds, Kill Bill and Flightplan. We adapted this to our film as it makes the viewing more thrilling for the audience and it is a convention of a thriller genre film. In Flight plan conspiracy is used which causes the audience to doubt themselves as to who the villain is and puts questions in their heads. We decided to adapt this into our narrative by making Alex’s face not visible to the audience. This links in with Flightplan as the villains identity would not be revealed in the film. The villain wore dark casual clothing which made him look like an ordinary citizen, this helps show the villains intelligence and planning in the action he is about to do as he does not want to be found guilty. We got this idea from Flight plan. These are all codes and conventions of a thriller. Alex does not have any dialogue in his on screen performance, this makes him seem much more mysterious as the audience are left clueless to his identity. The actions which he uses are very strong and aggressive, you also get the idea that he knows exactly what he is looking for as he is seen walking towards the room and searching through papers, this shows how he is clever in his planning and determined to find what he wants. To express the villains determination and plan, point of view shots are used and hand held camera as this shows movement and makes it feel more realistic. High angled shots in a deep focus are used at one point when Alex watches Katie walk down the corridor, this helps express his personality and his obsession with finding the files and getting away with it. The setting is very plain and office like to show that it is set in an ordinary work place making what happens in later scenes much more thrilling and unexpected. Flightplan.
