Behaviorism is a theory that human behavior can be studied scientifically without consideration of internal mental states. It involves conditioning behaviors through interactions with the environment using techniques like classical conditioning by pairing stimuli or operant conditioning through rewards and punishments. Behaviorism can be applied in classrooms through things like computer feedback, visual/auditory cues, physical rewards, and positive language to shape behaviors, eliminate unfavorable behaviors, create long-term skills, and maintain control and organization.
2. Behaviorism Behaviorism is the prediction and control of human behavior in which introspection and/or independent thinking play no essential part of its teaching methods. Conditioning occurs through interaction with environment. Behavior can be studied in a systematic and observable manner with no consideration of internal mental states.
3. Behaviorism Classical Conditioning: A technique used in behavioral training in which a naturally occurring stimulus is paired with a response. Operant Conditioning: A method of learning that happens through rewards and punishments for behavior. Through operant conditioning, an association is made between a behavior and a consequence for that behavior.
4. Ivan Pavlov(1849-1936) Pavlov's Dog's Experiment involving classical conditioning where when food was presented a bell rang the dog produced saliva and after the dog was able to produce saliva with no presence of food and just the stimulus of the bell.
6. Albert Bandura (1925-) Father of cognitivist movement Social Cognitive Theory: Social Learning Acquire behavior thorough observation and then imitation
7. Behaviorism in the classroom? Computer program feedback Visual and Auditory feedback
8. Behaviorism in the classroom? Physical Rewards Positive language feedback
9. How behaviorism helps the students? Helps continue good behavior Helps exterminated unfavorable behaviors
10. Benefits in my own classroom Creates long life skills Keep children under control Creates organization and fluidity in the classroom
