Just under 10 percent of the larger firms, and almost 11 percent of all firms,
earmark 75-90 percent of marketing expenditures for digital; 8.8 percent of
million-dollar-plus companies and 11.7 percent of all respondents spend more
than 90 percent of their budgets on digital marketing.
Groot’s companies, with combined annual sales of about $1.25 million, are in the
latter camp, with almost the entire marketing budget going to digital. In terms of
generating sales and leads, driving profitability, building brand awareness, and
keeping his competitive profile high, digital marketing—especially social media,
blogging, website, and SEO—give him greater bang for the buck than any other
type of marketing, he says.
