Putting the Pieces Together
   What is classroom management?
    ◦ It is a combination of many different teaching skills and
      concepts, including:
       Lesson Planning;
       Behavior Management;
       Classroom Instruction
    ◦ BUT…

Classroom Management Overview
 Effective classroom management also relies on other
    “intangibles”, including:
    ◦ Room setup and use of physical space;
    ◦ Knowledge of student personalities, interests, and habits;
    ◦ Consistent use of procedures, routines, and habits that promote efficiency
      and maximize learning time

That Little Something “Extra”
 Classroom management involves lesson planning in
    several key ways:
    ◦ Use of physical space;
    ◦ Planned activities and resources/materials;
    ◦ Roles of instructor(s) in facilitating activities and discussion;
 Meeting lesson plan objectives is the end goal of
    classroom management.

Putting It All Together…
 Effective Classroom Management also involves a plan
    for appropriate behavior management:
    ◦ Awareness of ideal behavior management techniques for each type of
      activity;
    ◦ Effective seating arrangements/assignments for different students;
    ◦ Visibility of class rules/regulation/expectations;

Putting It All Together…
 Finally, Classroom Management is also directly related
    to the quality of classroom instruction:
    ◦   Ability to engage and hold student interest;
    ◦   Clarity of information presented;
    ◦   Use of board work, supplemental notes, and handouts;
    ◦   Method of delivery and teacher/instructor “presence”;

Adding to the Pyramid…
 Classroom Management is really the art of
    simultaneously applying the teaching skills we have
    learned about previously to achieve desired learning
    objectives.

              “There is no failure. Only feedback.”
                          -Robert Allen
