Prior experience together is good but common approach, obvious synergy, deep mutual respect, worked out processes, clearly defined functions but ability to reach in and help each other. Talk about the curious fact that Tocci and KS had never done a project together. BUT we met and started integrating, talking, kibitzing, then J&J

Excellent for Renovation, Interior Fit-out or Expansion. SAVES HUGE AMMOUNTS OF MONEY/ENABLES US TO GUARENTEE NO CHANGE ORDERS. HDS– Surveying process that utilizes laser scanners w/ conventional surveying methods in order to produce a precise virtual model of the existing building & its site; Harware is placed in the space, each pixel becomes an x, y, or z coordinate to produce the 3D modelPoint cloud– the product of HDS and the basis for the BIM, which incorporates the design of the future conditionsIntel has completed a few side by side comparisons. In one, they sent 11 people into the field to gather measurements on an existing project. 3 weeks later, they completed the task. The field-collected data was missing components, and where the accuracy was questionable they had to send the team members back to the field to collect more data. A laser scanning team of 3 people was sent in to the exact same area. Scanning was completed 1 1/2 days later. All of the components were captured and accuracy was within a quarter of an inch!!! Beyond the dollar and time figures— and arguably more important—the 3D modeling contractors were able to take those scans and immediately lay them together with their design to start looking for potential problems.
A new Green Building XML (gbXML) Advisory Board recently launched according to a press release issued yesterday by gbXML.org. The independent board is comprised of eleven (11) member companies whose software works with gbXML and who are committed to maintaining the gbXML schema as an open standard. The following companies are represented: AiRNAB, Autodesk, Bentley, Cadsoft Corporation, Carmel Software, EDSL, Greenspace Research, HVAC Solution, Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES), Trane, and Wrightsoft .Why is this important? The gbXML open schema is the mostly widely used metadata format for transferring intelligent building information to facilitate thermal, energy, carbon, and water analyses associated with buildings. Several of Autodesk products support this schema, and the demand for building analysis is about to explode."The GSA has an urgent responsibility to make federal buildings into high-performance green buildings. The use of technologies such as BIM and the gbXML schema make it easier to accomplish this monumental task" said Donald Horn, Sustainability Program Director at GSA.
BIM, Laser Scanning, Sustainable Design Tools
The traditional definition of sustainability, from the Brundtland Commission in 1987 is “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” At Autodesk, we have taken the definition one step further. Our definition of sustainability is “Meeting the needs of the present WHILE IMPROVING the ability of future generations to meet their needs.” We view sustainability as actually making the world better for our children, not just leaving it the same. Sustainable design is the intersection of sustainability and design innovation. Sustainable design is design that integrates, analyzes and optimizes environmental, social, and economic factors for the life of the product. Sustainable design is design that contributes to making the world a better place for future generations.
As a leading provider of over 80 different design and engineering software solutions, to the millions of designers, architects, and engineers creating the built world around us, and the billions of people affected by that work, we recognize that sustainability is integral to our corporate strategy and future business success. As our CEO Carl Bass frequently describes, sustainability is part of being a good, responsible company. It contributes to making Autodesk a financially great company delivering outstanding products. And it makes us an important company, helping our customerstackle the global challenges of the 21st century. Our mission at Autodesk is to simplify and democratize sustainable design. We want to make it easy for architects, engineers, and designers everywhere to make smart, more sustainable design decisions.
