RESEARCH, PLANNING,
AND EVALUATION STAGE?
2. Blogger
Word
YouTube
Quark
Final Cut Express
Slideshare

Google
-Survey Monkey
Photoshop
Facebook/Twitter
PROGRAMMES USED
3. For my primary research I focused on expanding my
knowledge of understanding what precisely goes into a
‘Regional Magazine’ which Google provided a lot of my
research. It allowed me to access existing products allowing
me to capitalise upon the information I gained from outside of
a media technology such as a simple magazine. I also used
the internet to research into target markets and readership
figures in order to understand ideal target markets.
RESEARCH
4. During GCSE and AS level we were introduced to Blogger in order
to present our work in an easy and user-friendly manner. Since I
had previous knowledge of this I decided it would be useful to
use this as A2 as well as I could easily upload work to keep up to
date with my previous work and be able to expand on this easily
for future revisions.
As with Blogger you can embed images and videos I used this in
junction with Survey Monkey in order to ask research into my
target market and incorporate them into my planning stages.
Although, Blogger does have its flaws such as a lack of spell-
checking and the need for an internet connection in order to save
and edit. Therefore, Microsoft Word was also an integral part of
my Research and Planning due to being able to check over my
spellings and mistakes and also being able to alter my work on-
the-go such as train journeys or even when internet access just
wasn’t available.
RESEARCH AND PLANNING
5. Mobile Devices was certainly an option to be used during my
research and planning stages. Personally, I found it unsuitable
due to the nature of my task; a magazine is about simple
details to make up an overall image. The size of a mobile
screen I feel is too small to be able to easily identify these
integral things. Although, I did take advantage of the Blogger
App which allowed me to again post while on-the-go and be
able to keep up to date with my blog whilst being unable to
access a computer/laptop.
RESEARCH AND PLANNING
6. For the majority of my production I used Photoshop as due to
GCSE and AS I had acquired quite a high level of skill and also
the programme is generally used in the higher-end production
of magazines so using it in the construction of my product
allowed me to access the same level of sophistication of
those of professionals.
Although, I did incorporate other DTP software as Photoshop
is not ideal in terms of a writing and processing tool.
Therefore, Quark allowed me to make pages of equally high-
standard in word-processing as to my production work in
Photoshop for an overall high-standard product.
CONSTRUCTION
7. I used two types of Still Image camera in regards to my
production work. As my front cover image was taken live of
the band I did not want to risk a SLR camera due to its value
and therefore used a Nikon CoolPix as it’s quality is quite
near to that of the Digital SLR but of a fraction of the cost
allowing me to take better images due to the lowered risk of
breakage. Although, for photography in less precarious
situations I did use the SLR for optimal quality to my
magazine and to create a sense of verisimilitude to my
products.
CONSTRUCTION
8. I used Survey Monkey to gather feedback on my production
work in order to make it to a higher standard and to
successfully target my audience
Similarly, I used Social Networking such as Facebook and
Twitter to contact my target market but also to spread my
Surveys to gather more responses than would have been
achievable by hand.
CONSTRUCTION
9. For question 1 I decided to create a video and thus use Final
Cut Express in order to edit this. Final Cut Express allows for
additional file format support such as .PSD files which
allowed me to integrate my Photoshop files for ease of access
to my products and swift creation of my Question 1. As I had
very little knowledge of how to make a video I found Final Cut
Express very technical for my limited skills so therefore had to
use YouTube in order to get to grips with the programme. I
also used a YETI Microphone in order to record my voice over
as this emits outside interference, ideal for a busy -school
environment.
Wix.com was also integral to my evaluation as it allowed me
to create an easy way to display my evaluation whilst allowing
me to use the Web to my advantage and put Web 2.0 into
practise.
