2. My mother gave me the name Eli after my Great Grandfather. He was killed in the war when my Grandfather was only thirteen years old. I am ten years old. I have short light brown hair, green eyes, and I am tall. I have brown hair just like my father.

3. I have two brothers and two sisters. My mother’s name is Sara and my father’s name is Thomas. I am the second youngest in my family. I have an older brother, Seth, a twin brother named Cyrus, a younger sister Mary, and an older sister, Molly. I also have a dog named Buddy.

4. My house has three bedrooms. I share a bedroom with my two brothers. My two sisters share a bedroom with each other. It has a large kitchen, the living room is the biggest room. My mother and father’s room is the smallest room. My father owns twenty acres of land behind our house. There is a little creek behind the house just inside the woods.

5. I have two outfits of clothes. I have one very good pair of pants that I wear on Sunday. Boys always wear a long sleeve shirt with a vest over it. Every girl wears a long dress that my mother sews.

6. My father works as a butcher. When people around town shoot large animals such as a deer, they bring it to my father. He takes it into the barn and makes meat out of the animal. If you don’t want to pay him in money or if you do not have money you can split the meat with my father. My father teaches the boys how to butcher an animal.

7. My mother works as the town’s seamstress. If somebody needs to have something sewed they would ask my mother to sew it. My mother gets paid with food from their gardens.

8. My chores are to take care of the livestock. I have to help my older brothers hunt for the family food. I have to milk the cows and bring the milk to my mother. I don’t mind my chores but if my brother gets sick I have to do his chores. I don’t like that.

9. My favorite game is playing with a stick and a hoop. It is very fun and entertaining. The hoop has been passed down from my Great Grandfather to my father, then to me and my brothers and sisters. We can only play if we get our chores done in time.

10. For breakfast we usually eat bacon from our own pigs. I love bacon. For lunch a lot of time we eat cornbread. For dinner we would have venison that father killed. We eat apples for snacks from the trees.

11. We go to school one mile away from our house. The school is very dark with only two candles lit. We have a slate and a quill and ink. My teacher’s name is Mr. Washington. He is a tall funny person and good teacher. He is friends with my father.

12. When we get in trouble we are punished by getting extra chores. If we yell at Mother we get paddled five times and then do extra chores. Only my older brother has yelled at Mother. Nobody else has yelled at her because we don’t want to get whipped and do extra chores.

13. If somebody gets very sick the town doctor would come to our house. The only medicine we use is made of herbs. We also use leeches to get the poison out of people.

14. We go to church every Sunday. My father is good friends with the preacher. We go to church with my mother’s friend. The church is only a mile down the road. All my friends go to church. I sit next to my friend Billy. I love going to church.

15. Punishments for breaking the law are different for different laws. If you steal you go to jail. If you get in fights you have to go to jail for three months. Nobody I know has gone to jail.

16. Colonial life in New England is very interesting.
