 Work–life balance is a concept including proper
prioritizing between "work" (career and ambition) and
"lifestyle"(health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual
development/meditation).
 Related, though broader, terms include "lifestyle calm
balance" and "lifestyle choices".
According to a survey conducted by the National Life
Insurance Company, four out of ten U.S. employees state
that their jobs are "very" or "extremely" stressful. Those in
high-stress jobs are three times more likely than others to
suffer from stress-related medical conditions and are twice
as likely to quit. The study states that women, in particular,
report stress related to the conflict between work and
family.
 Occupational stress is stress involving work.
According to the current World Health
Organization's definition, work-related stress "is the
response people may have when presented with work
demands and pressures that are not matched to their
knowledge and abilities , which challenge their
ability to cope.

The number of stress-related disability claims by American
employees has doubled according to the Employee Assistance
Professionals Association in Virginia. 75% to 90% of physician
visits are related to stress and, according to the American
Institute of Stress, the cost to industry has been estimated at
$200 billion-$300 billion a year

 Take personal responsibility for your work-life balance.
 Try to “work smart not long”, involves tight prioritization.
 Ensure that a line is drawn between work and leisure.
 Take seriously the link between work-related stress and mental
ill health.
 Recognize the importance of protective factors, including
exercise, leisure activities and friendships. Watch out for the
cumulative effect of working long hours by keeping track of
your working hours over a period of weeks or months rather
than days.
