1. A final look at Jesus fulfilling the Feast of Tabernacles If Any Man Thirsts . . .
2. Quick Review of Sukkot & The Feasts The 7 annual Feasts of the Lord are “dress rehearsals” for God’s people of spiritual realities. They commemorate (past) or anticipate (future) encounters between God and His people. Passover: For Israelites, Passover helped them anticipate the need for a final, satisfactory atonement. For Christians, Passover commemorates that Jesus the Messiah is the final Passover Lamb. Pentecost: The 10 Commandments (Torah/ The Word) given at Pentecost (Sinai). The Holy Spirit poured out on Pentecost. God gives us His Word (Torah) and the power (Spirit) to obey His Word. Sukkot: The first two feasts have already been fulfilled. With the Feast of Booths, we anticipate Jesus’ Second Coming when, “behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them,” Just as the Lord’s Supper is a weekly commemorating of Christ’s atonement for us and an anticipation of the Wedding Supper of the Lamb, the Feasts are annual times appointed by God (unlike Christmas and Easter) to grow in our appreciation of our redemption.
3. Catechetical Training Why do we celebrate Sukkot? To remember that this present world is not our home, but that God is our Home!
4. If Anyone Thirsts . . . Isa. 12: 3 “Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.” Isa. 44:3 “For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring.” John 7: 37-39 “On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'"39Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.”
5. I am the Light of the World John 8: 12 – Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
