Urban music of rap, hip-hop & r ‘n’ b all have similar codes and conventions.
Below are the typical codes and conventions that you would see in music videos,
magazine covers, photo shoots and album work.

Money – Artist, particularly male artist love to talk about money within their
music as well as show it off in their work.

Cars – Artist use cars as a symbol of their wealth.

Jewellery – Artist use jewellery as a symbol of their wealth.

Men – Female artist tend to talk about their love and experience they face with a
man within their music.

Women – Male artist tend to talk about their experiences, mostly sexual
endeavours, that they have with many women within their music.
