Part II: Research, Teaching and Clinical Contributions
A. Narrative Report:
As a Clinical Assistant Professor based at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts,
my responsibilities have emphasized community care and a general surgical practice. A former
member of a four surgeon clinical practice with expertise in general and vascular surgery, I
devoted approximately fifty percent of my clinical time to breast and oncologic care. I
participated actively in the Mount Auburn Hospital Tumor Board, Breast Tumor Board and
Cancer Management Committee to review oncologic care within the institution. As prior Co-
Director of the Hoffman Breast Center at Mount Auburn Hospital, I was responsible for quality
and outreach measures affecting breast cancer care.
While in active practice, my clinical time was devoted to general surgical care at Mount Auburn
Hospital. I performed 300-400 operative cases annually including colorectal, parathyroid/thyroid
and laparoscopic surgery. Since joining the active surgical staff at Mount Auburn Hospital, I
have been committed to the training of students and residents in medical and surgical care. I have
given lectures in breast disease, thyroid/parathyroid disease and abdominal exam techniques to
resident staff, Harvard Medical School students, MIT bioengineering students and Northeastern
University physician assistant students as part of a teaching core curriculum at Mount Auburn
Hospital. As Co-Director of the Hoffman Breast Center, I have been moderator and panelist at
both CME- based, community and staff educational forums related to breast disease.
Presently, I continue to Lecture Harvard Medical students in their core basic science curriculum.
I also serve to provide professional expert witness review for hospital based cases the the Risk
Management Foundation for Crico.
