Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher and mathematician born in 570 BC who founded a school in Croton that made outstanding contributions to mathematics. He is known best for the Pythagorean theorem relating the lengths of the sides of a right triangle and believed that everything was related to mathematics. Leonhard Euler was a Swiss mathematician and physicist born in 1707 who made major contributions to subjects including geometry, calculus, trigonometry, and number theory. He standardized modern mathematics using Greek symbols still used today and contributed to fields like astronomy, mechanics, optics and acoustics. Euler discovered a new theorem in Euclidean geometry and wrote school books that helped define modern mathematical symbols.
