We’re Glad We’re Here, You
Will Be Too!
The working adventure with Banana Shire Council (BSC) is one
of the most exciting and thrilling experiences that develops an
individual both personally and professionally.
It’s a gateway to embrace the colossal work network, the broad
spectrum of opportunities and sometimes a haven wherein long
lasting friendships are formed. I know for many, the first step into a
professional workplace can be extremely daunting and filled with a
lot of trepidation.
Personally, for me here at BSC I was made to feel welcome from
day one; the entire Council staff was a group of friendly, extremely
down to Earth people I had ever come across. I think what made
work so special for me here is that it has both the scope to
challenge the young and experienced minds and the team of diverse
individuals, especially your team members who you come to bond so
closely with.
The training range, close expertise mentorship and supportive
culture make it an ideal environment to open your ideas and relate
with like minded professionals and external clients. Travelling to
various locations around the shire, you will be given the opportunity
tackle abundant projects that will expand your skill set and future
possibilities.
As a graduate Engineer, the combined experience of design and
site work allowed me to extend my thought process to witness the
full cycle of a project.
I consider my association with the Council as one of the most
rewarding and pleasurable career experiences and strongly
recommend it to anyone looking to expand their horizon with the
vast versatility Banana Shire Council has to offe r.

The Banana Shire Council has provided an excellent platform for career and
Hamish   McIntosh
professional development.
Manager Planning and Strategy

The Banana Shire Council has modern Council offices and facilities. New
administration building was constructed in 2012.
Council staff are friendly and productive. You will find that in smaller local governments
like Banana Shire, the door will always be held open for you and you are always greeted
in the hall way / lunch room.
Customer service staff are highly efficient, helpful and professional in their approach.
Human Resources staff are highly efficient, helpful and professional in their approach.
The HR team go that extra step and ensure new staff are welcome and settle into their
positions and town.
Living and working in the Banana Shire provides fantastic recreational and social
opportunities as well as having reasonable rents, house prices and access to services.
The “small country town vibe” is what attracted me to Banana, notably “A local called
out ‘god bless you’ when I sneezed whilst driving down the main street of Biloela”.

Michael Buckley
Parks Advisor

I spent 10 years in Private enterprise prior to starting a job with Council
admittedly starting with a lot of misguided assumptions of what it would be
like.
Twelve years on that job for me has turned into a career due to Local
Governments positive approach to training and personal development
coupled with gaining valuable skills and experience working with diverse
teams at all levels.

Qualifications and experience gained within Local Government is very
transferable from Council to Council offering many avenues for multiple

“The workforce within the Council is a team of talented people who manage
to create a friendly and welcoming environment.  In my past three years
working for Banana Shire Council I have found the various positions I have
held within the organisation to be both challenging and rewarding and have
allowed me to learn a great deal and develop a number of new skills.
I am proud of what I have achieved both professionally and socially and
look forward to my future with Council ”
Thank you for coming and visiting
us today

The village of Cracow was a booming gold mining town in the 1930’s with a population over 20,000 Today the population is slightly smaller, the gold mine operates but0 on a smaller basis. However the town’s famous pub still exits and it is worth a drive to have a refreshing drink in the bar and check out the visual stourues that exit there.

  19. Just some our diverse career opportunities.
  20. We supply Corporate and Field Staff Uniforms and PPE.
  21. Council’s Community Resource Centre is a “one of a kind” in local government in QLD This provides professional consulting services for children and their parents, holiday programs run by teachers and teacher’s aid, specially designed playground for children’s developmental activities, a toy library
  22. Just a small sample of our staff and their thoughts about their professional life with Council.
  23. I t’s a gateway to embrace the colossal work network, the broad spectrum of opportunities and sometimes a haven wherein long lasting friendships are formed. I think what made work so special for me here is that it has both the scope to challenge the young and experienced minds and the team of diverse individuals, especially your team members who you come to bond so closely with. As a graduate Engineer, the combined experience of design and site work allowed me to extend my thought process to witness the full cycle of a project. I consider my association with the Council as one of the most rewarding and pleasurable career experiences
  24. You will find that in smaller local governments like Banana Shire, the door will always be held open for you and you are always greeted in the hall way / lunch room. The “small country town vibe” is what attracted me to Banana, notably “A local called out ‘god bless you’ when I sneezed whilst driving down the main street of Biloela”.
