The document outlines a lesson plan for a Year 11 media and technology class. The lesson focuses on the issue of body confidence and the pressures exerted by media images of celebrities. Students will research and present on how to help younger students not be affected by these media messages. They will hold a referendum on whether body confidence should be taught in schools. The document provides context on referendums that have been held in the UK and outlines the objectives, tasks, and success criteria for the lesson.

9. The 1975 Referendum The question asked to the British people would be: "Do you think the UK should stay in the European Community?" The referendum, was the first vote of its kind although people often say we should have a referendum on a particular issue. For example : People say that we should have had a referendum on whether we went to war in Iraq.
10. Referendums Referendums were held in Scotland and Wales in 1979 and again in 1997 on whether they should have their Parliaments . Northern Ireland had referendums in 1973 & 1998 on the Province's constitutional future; In Greater London in 1998 there was a referendum about whether London should have an elected Mayor and London Assembly
