Paros is a Greek island in the central
Aegean Sea. It belongs to the Cyclades
island group. Paros has recently become
a popular tourist destination.
3. History
The story that Paros of Parrhasia colonized the island
with Arcadians is an etymological fiction of the type that
abounds in Greek legend. The island later received from
Athens a colony of Ionians under whom it attained a high
degree of prosperity. It sent out colonies to Thasos and
Parium on the Hellespont. In the former colony, which
was planted in the 15th or 18th Olympiad, the poet
Archilochus, a native of Paros, is said to have taken part.
As late as 385 BC the Parians, in conjunction with
Dionysius of Syracuse, founded a colony on the Illyrian
island of Pharos .

5. 1. Beaches
Paros is blessed with many beaches offering golden sand and
various settings that cover all the range of beach goers, from
intimate coves to party beaches for the young and adventurous.
Its crystal clear waters are etched in the memories of its visitors
enriching their winters.

Windsurfing in Paros is one of the
greatest attractions for its visitors. The
northerly winds blowing in the summer
months on the aegean sea, known as
Meltemi, attract thousands of fans of the
sport.

The relatively new sport of kitesurfing has been
from its inception part of the island. As a result,
the world cup is held here regularly while there
are some world-renowned kitesurfing conditions
and schools at Pounda beach, opposite of
Antiparos island.

Wakeboarding, Waterskiing,
tubes, flying fish and other water
sports where a ski-boat tows the
adventurous visitors of Paros
island are available at the
beaches of Kolymbithres,
Monastiri, Santa Maria, Farangas
