3. Introduction
The master of horror is my chosen project as being an avid horror fan it is one of
my favorite interests. Wes Craven is the Director which stands out from them all
and has captivated audiences around the world. By undertaking this project I
will see where he gets his ideas from and which film got his career off the
ground.

come from?
Wes Craven full name (Wesley Earl
Craven) was born August 2nd 1939
in Cleveland Ohio. He had a strict
Baptist upbringing with his parents
Caroline (Nee Miller) and Paul
Craven.

Education and achievements
• Wes Craven obtained an Undergraduate Degree in English and
Psychology at Wheaton College in Illinois.
• He went on then to obtain a masters degree in Philosophy and Writing at
the Johns Hopkins University.
• He got his first job in the film industry as a sound editor at a post
production company in New York.

Career highlights
His career has spanned for almost four decades with his first release in 1972
with the premier of “The Last House on the Left” up to the present and future
release on April 15th 2011 of the continuation of the “SCREAM Trilogy” the long
awaited “SCREAM 4”.
Wes Cravens most popular classic is “Nightmare on Elm Street”, which terrified
audiences all over the world for a period of 10 years between 1984 and 1994.

Wes Craven has made many horror movies and “Carnival of Souls” a 1962
classic which was directed by Herk Harvey had inspired him to do a remake in
1998. In total Wes Craven has directed 29 movies to date.
Awards received for
recognition of his works
During his career, Wes Craven won nine Cinematic Awards and received three
Nominations. These consist of:
1977 Wes Craven won the prize of the International Critics jury in the Sitges-Catalonian
International Film Festival for the release of his film the “Hills Have Eyes”.
1995 The release of “nightmare on Elm Street” won the “critics award” at the “Avoriaz
Fantastic Film Festival”
1992 The Brussels International Festival of Film fantasy presented him with the Pegasus
Audience Award for the release of “The People under the Stairs”. The Best Film Award
also went to Wes Craven for the release of “New Nightmare the final Nightmare on Elm
Street” and the release of “Shocker” was also nominated for best film in 1990.
1997 The Gérardmer Film Festival granted him the Grand Prize in ' for “Scream”.
1997 He was nominated for Best Director for “Scream” at the Academy of Science Fiction,
Fantasy & Horror Films,
2006 He was honored at Spike TV's Scream with the Mastermind Award,

6. Conclusion
As I am an avid horror fan I am awaiting the release of the new “Scream” movie
as I really like the works of Wes Craven and I am sure that this sequel will
deliver quality horror as his films have done in the past.
