FDM Process introduction (A part of Additive Manufacturing Technique OR Commonly Known as 3D Printing). 3D printing is an evolved manufacturing technique; it is comparatively better than conventional substractive manufacturing. There is minimum wastage of material because material is added only at those locations where it is required. To make 3D model you need a 3D printer and feeding material and obviously power source. Any thermoplastic material whose melting temperature lies in the range of 150-240 deg. C can be used in FDM based 3D printing.

Direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) Is an additive manufacturing technique that uses a laser as the power source to sinter powdered material (typically metal), aiming the laser automatically at points in space defined by a 3D model, binding the material together to create a solid structure. .ss. Metal powder (20μm diameter) without binder is completely melted by scanning of a high power laser beam. The density of a produced part is about 98 %. SLS has about 70 %. One advantage of DMLS compared to SLS is the small size of particles which enables very detailed parts. Working principle: Direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) is an AM process by which digital 3Ddesign data is used to build up a component in layers by depositing metal material. The system starts by applying a thin layer of the powder material to the building platform After each layer, a laser beam then fuses the powder at exactly the points defined by the computer-generated data, using a laser scanning optic . The platform is then lowered and another layer of powder is applied . Once again the material is fused so as to bond with the layer below at the predefined points resulting in a complex part. Thereby not only the part but also the final material is created in the process and defines the unique characteristics of this technology. Every single welding line creates a new micro segment of the final part and can therefore be monitored. Stacking all monitoring information on top of each other, we can visualize a 3D model of the part quality.

3 D printing or Rapid Prototyping or Additive Manufacturing, it is known by many names. This presentation touches down on why it has gained enormous significance in today's manufacturing industry, How 3-D printing is done, and explains briefly some of the many popular procedures. Next we look at the various materials used in this technology and their applicability, pros and cons. We also take a look at the history of 3 D printing, specifications of a 3 D printer, its newer and more innovative uses beyond prototyping. In conclusion, we observe that this technology ushers a new age of digital manufacturing, though not as a replacement for conventional manufacturing techniques.

Unique binder-based 3D printing technology was developed at MIT. ExOne uses Binder Jetting technology to 3D print complex parts in industrial-grade materials. Binder Jetting is an additive manufacturing process in which a liquid binding agent is selectively deposited to join powder particles. Layers of material are then bonded to form an object. The printhead strategically drops binder into the powder. The job box lowers and another layer of powder is then spread and binder is added. Over time, the part develops through the layering of powder and binder. Binder Jetting is capable of printing a variety of materials including metals, sands and ceramics. Some materials, like sand, require no additional processing. Other materials are typically cured and sintered and sometimes infiltrated with another material, depending on the application. Hot isostatic pressing may be employed to achieve high densities in solid metals.

very good to have a this type of context in theRemember that a 3D printer works by depositing raw material layer by layer along the X, Y and Z axis. The accuracy of the 3D printer therefore depends upon the minimum distance the nozzle can travel vertically (the Z axis). Minimum the distance it can move, more the points along the sinusoid that it can capture, and better the accuracy. For Stratasys 3D printers, which are the pioneers of the FDM printers, the current best possible dimensional accuracy is about 0.127 mm. Of course, the choice of raw material too plays an important part in achieving dimensional stability. It should also be remembered that the accuracy comes at the cost of printing time required. A few advantages of FDM 3D printers include: slideshare FDM 3D Printers find application in: creating prototypes for Fit, Form and Function testing rapid tooling patterns and mould inserts creating and testing any parts that work under thermal loads production of precise and complex end-use parts e.g. jigs & fixtures Sectors that use FDM 3D Printers include: Automotive Aerospace Manufacturing Industrial Medical Architecture Consumer Goods Fashion Education & Research Overall, FDM 3D printers give a very high value for money and a

Size separation, or sieving, is a technique to segregate particles by size, vital in pharmaceuticals, food processing, and mining. Methods include sieving (particles pass through mesh sieves), sedimentation (based on settling velocities in fluid), cyclone separation (using centrifugal forces), and filtration (using barriers with specific pore sizes). Applications range from ensuring uniform drug formulations to grading grains and extracting minerals. Size separation offers efficiency, precision, and versatility, making it essential for quality control and consistency across various industries.

Progress in understanding the molecular basis of primary neurulation has occurred on two fronts: neural induction and shaping and bending of the neural plate. In regard to the former, the neural plate is now known to be the default state of the ectoderm, and induction of the neural plate actually involves suppressing the formation of the epidermal ectoderm (neural induction is not considered further herein). In regard to shaping and bending of the neural plate, about 100 mutations in the mouse have been identified that result in defective shaping and/or bending and, consequently, result in neural tube defects (NTDs); thus, these mutations provide insight into which genes are involved in both normal and abnormal neurulation. Because these form-shaping events of neurulation are driven by changes in cell behavior, as discussed earlier, it is not surprising that mutation of cytoskeletal, extracellular matrix/cell adhesion, cell cycle, and cell death genes results in NTDs. Neurulation is a highly choreographed morphogenetic series of events that must be precisely timed and coordinated across multiple tissues. This presumably involves signaling among tissues. It is the hope of studies using mouse mutations that such signaling pathways will be identified, ultimately leading to an understanding of the molecular basis of neurulation and the formation of NTDs in both animal models and ultimately in humans. In the following sections, we discuss what has been learned about the molecular basis of shaping and bending of the neural plate.Embryology Neurulation is the critical morphogenetic event occurring during the fourth week of human gestation, converting the previously developed neural plate into the ectoderm covered neural tube that will eventually differentiate into the brain and spinal cord. Genetic regulation of the events involved in mammalian neural tube morphogenesis is a complicated process that involves a multitude of genes. These genes have vital functions in a range of biological activities that are thought to include signaling molecules, transcription proteins and factors, cytoskeletal and gap junction proteins, growth factors, and tumor suppressor genes (Copp et al., 2003; Ewart et al., 1997; Sah et al., 1995; Zhang et al., 1996). The neural tube, formed by the cell shape changes and movements, ultimately fuses at several discrete points.Neurulation (or primary neurulation) starts in the fourth week of gestation and is the process that leads to the formation of the neural tube from the neural plate, the rudiment of the CNS [34]. It encompasses four essential and overlapping events: (1) neural induction, (2) shaping, (3) bending of the neural plate, and (4) closure of the neural tube. Neural induction (1) is the process of neural plate formation, that is, the beginning of the development of the CNS. It occurs during gastrulation starting on day 18. As described earlier, cells of the ectoderm differentiate into the neuroectoderm, a pseudostratif.
