2. Objective of IEC
increase awareness among the rural people
generation of demand for sanitary facilities.
IEC focuses on community-led & people centered
initiatives.

people through an intensive IEC.
Creating awareness,sensitization and motivation of
people to follow the right hygiene, sanitation and
water handling practices.
3. CONSTRAINTS
• Large geographical area.
• Dense population.
• 10 blocks having hilly & interior areas.
• Open Defecation 69%.Before campaign.
• Not having mindset to built toilets.
• Many more people not having finance for
construction.
• Some were not having land.
• Technological awareness.
4. District Level STRATEGIES
• Idendification of Target.(A,B,C & D)
• Focused IEC in three steps
1. School students
2. Village community
3. GP member, VWSC member, co-
operative society at village level,Elected
members, village level community leaders,
masons etc.
5. • Adopt Approches :- Preventive, Curative & Developmental.
• Creating IEC module.
• Supportive activity.
• Technical & Non technical IEC plan i.e. hygine education,
Mason training.
• IEC for involvement of various Stake Holders
• Putting various option of sanitation according geographical
condition through IEC.
• Generate community pariticipation
• Regular Impact Assessment of IEC and innovations
accordingly.
6. Analysis of DATA
• At dist. Level District Water & Sanitation Commit implemented.
• Sanitation Survey was conducted in all GP in 2003
