This document discusses dentofacial perspectives and aesthetics in dentistry. It notes that aesthetics involves appreciation of beauty, harmony, and naturalness. The dentist must visualize aesthetics in relation to the patient and translate that into an acceptable result. This perspective analyzes the lips in relation to the front teeth and how the deeper color of the lips contrasts with lighter teeth. The dentofacial composition considers both the front and side views of the face in two muscle positions: static and dynamic. In the static position, with lips slightly parted and teeth out of occlusion, four factors influence tooth exposure: lip length, age, race, and sex.
