3. STORY OF THE REAL LEGAND….
Dr. Kurien joined Loyola College in Madras and attained his degree in B.Sc
in Physics.
Went to the USA on government scholarship and pursued degree in
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
In between, he completed special studies in engineering at the Tata Iron
and Steel Company Institute at Jamshedpur, Bihar.
In February 1946 he underwent nine months of specialized training in
dairy engineering at the National Dairy Research Institute of Bangalore
On May 13, 1949 headed for Anand, a place in Kaira district of Gujarat,
as an officer of the Dairy division, for next five years.
4. Dr. Kurian left his job and joined forces with Tribhuvandas Patel
and started the Milk Cooperative movement registered under the
name of Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers Union Ltd
(KDCMPUL), which was later renamed as “AMUL“
executed the programme "Operation Flood“
many important institutions were established namely the GCMMF
(Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd) and NDDB
(National Dairy Development board)
In his service of over fifty years he attained 15 honorary degrees
from different institutions of the world

Dr. Kurien is the main architect of ‘Operation Flood’, the
largest dairy development programme in the word, known as
“WHITE REVOLUTION” in India.
Operation Flood ran under Kurien's leadership in three phases
for 26 years, with three principal objectives:
Making dairying India's largest self-sustainable rural
employment programme
Bringing India close to self-sufficiency in milk production
Trebling the nation's milk production within a span of two-
and-a-half decades to make India the world's largest milk
producer

GCMMF formed the NGO : Amul Relief Trust(ART), through
which Amul built schools devastated in the Gujrat earthquakes
of 2001 by making a donation of 50million rupees.
