Analysing adverts of artists

2. Bottom of the page has links to social network sites regarding the album; this indicates that
he has quite a young target audience and this would appeal to them more as due to the
increase n social media and new technology it would increase publicity and popularity.
One main image on the page
of his face; main focus and
attracts the reader’s attention.
It makes it immediately clear to
the reader what the subject
matter is. Ed Sheeran’s
primary audience is females,
and a close up picture has
been used to present him in an
attractive way. The picture has
a Sepia effect on it which
makes the writing and the
orange sections stand out
more. The orange has been
incorporated onto the advert
as his album cover for “Plus”
is completely orange, and it
makes it more recognizable.
The main image does not
present much to the reader
about the album, but it is a
convention of the Pop genre
as well as the music, pop
focuses on the artist’s identity.
The advert includes
information about some of the
singles that feature on the
album. This would interest the
audience as these two songs
were very popular,
mainstream songs that both
featured in the charts, so the
reader would be familiar with
these singles which could
persuade them in purchasing
the album.
There is a small image of the album cover to make it aware to readers
and people who may buy the album what it looks like, so they know
exactly what they’re looking for.
Sepia tone, orange and white
together – reflects the house style of
the digipak the orange used to link to
artists identity as he is known for his
iconic ginger hair. White text is used
as it stands out from dark colours.
The artist’s name and title of
the album are central as it is
the key information on the
page.
Has a quote and rating at the bottom
of the page to persuade the audience
that it is a good album. It has a
meaningful description to entice the
reader in, and the rating is from Q
magazine which demonstrates that it
must be a good album as it is highly
rated from a large and well known
institution.

3. Has a distinctive colour scheme of black and white, makes it recognizable as it is the
same colour scheme as his album. Relates to the theme of one of his most popular
songs on the album “Suit and Tie” which has the colour scheme of black and white.
Furthermore one of Timberlake’s iconic looks is to look suave and sophisticated in a suit.

Artist is making eye contact
with the reader; makes it
seem more personal as if the
advert is directed at you
specifically. It engages the
reader and makes them read
further on. Justin Timberlake
has a large fanbase, a large
portion of which are female;
he is seen as quite a sexual
icon and this will engage
them on a personal level.
Has a small picture of the
album cover in the corner of
the page, this is recognizable
to the reader and may attract
their interest into buying
tickets for the concert as well
as advertising the album and
persuading them to buy it .
Has social media links at the
bottom of the page to get more
publicity for himself and his tour.
His fanbase has a wide range of
ages, a lot of who are young
people who use new technology
and social media. This will target
them and so they are able to find
out more information about him
and his tour online as it is easily
accessible for them.
Information about the concert is in
very small font. This is because the
reader would usually go online to
find out more information, therefore
it does not need to be displayed
largely on the page. The main focus
is the artist himself and not other
information such as ticket prices,
where you can get the tickets etc.
so it does not need to be displayed
clearly on the page.
Has names of other artists that will
also be performing at his concert;
this would interest the audience as
they are of the same genre and they
are well known singers. Their
names aren’t as large as Justin
Timberlake’s as he is the star of the
show whereas they are not as
important.

4. Black and white colour
scheme draws the reader’s
attention to the main image in
the centre of the page as the
dark image stands out against
the white background. This
also applies for the artist’s
name at the top of the page,
which is in large capital letters
and is central so it engages
the reader.
Body language of artists, isn’t
showing his face to the
audience. This is unusual as
typically the artist shows his
face as part of pop identity to
engage the reader,
sometimes making eye
contact. Eminem hasn’t done
this as because he is part of
the rap genre, he presents
himself in a different way. In
addition to this Eminem is
such an iconic and
revolutionary artist in the
music industry that he does
not need to show his face as
everyone already knows who
he is.
The position that the artist is
standing in presents his
identity as it shows off the
clothes he is wearing; he has
his hood up, high top trainers,
dark jeans, a hoodie and a
watch which are all
conventions of what a typical
rap artists would wear. This is
a social norm for this genre of
music.
Has several websites listed
for applying for tickets as due
to the increase in the
advances in technology this is
the most popular way to apply
for tickets. Eminem has a
large target audience, the
majority of which use
smartphones and social
media so this would appeal to
them. Furthermore it has his
website written at the bottom
of the page so readers can
easily access it on their
phones and tablets for more
information about the concert.
“TICKETS ON SALE FRIDAY 9 MAY AT 9AM” has been put into a black box with
white writing to separate it from the rest of the text as this is important. Due to the
popularity of Eminem customers will try to buy tickets as soon as they are on sale
and so it has been made clear to them when it is possible to purchase tickets.
Everything has been

reader can easily take in the
information.

5. Similar Conventions Different Conventions
The main focus of the advert is the
artists, which is in the centre of the page
to direct the reader’s attention.
Have different colour schemes; Ed
Sheeran’s uses colours which relate to
his album such as orange, whereas the
other two adverts are black and white.
All have links to different websites or
social media sites; they all have a target
audience which use social media and new
technology which enables them to easily
access these sites.
In Eminem’s advert he does not show his
face whereas the other two artists show
their face to engage the reader and to
get them interested.
All the text has been positioned centrally
so the reader can easily read the
information as it is organised and clear.
Different camera shots have been used
for each artist; Ed Sheeran uses a close
up shot; Justin Timberlake uses a mid
shot and Eminem uses a long shot.
All discuss the albums and songs of the
artists as this would appeal to audiences
which are fans of the artists as they may
have the album or have heard their
songs; they would identify with the songs
and it would persuade them to purchase
tickets to the concert or the album itself.
Justin Timberlake and Eminem’s adverts
are both advertising upcoming concerts;
Timberlake’s states the other singers
that are performing whereas Eminem’s
does not, leaving the reader wanting to
know who is supporting him.
