2. “Betrayed by her words, Silenced
by her enemies”
The murder of a female reporter, who covered the Chechen conflict, leads a
Russian/American detective into a dangerous web of conspiracy and espionage involving:
chemical warfare, an overdue library book, a secret affair, an undetectable gun, a vanished
daughter, coordinated terrorists attacks and the assassination of the Russian President.
3. Synopsis
Anna is a reporter investigating horrors of the Balkan/Chechyn Wars. She is an independent woman who does her job with
determination and commitment. She lives each day as if there were not enough minutes in the day for what she needs to do in her life.
A woman who has lived, but now unsure for how much longer. Working in both camps she uncovers underhand deals and various plots
of counter espionage. Her enemies think they are using her until she becomes a threat for both sides and somebody has her
assassinated. An American/Russian detective, Ivanov, risks his life more than once, to unravel the mysterious circumstances
surrounding her death. As Ivanov retraces Anna's steps in Moscow, London and the Middle East, he learns about her caring nature and
dogged determination to reveal the truth about the war yet she had secrets of her own. Ivanov’s quest leads him into a dangerous web
of conspiracy and espionage involving: chemical warfare, an overdue library book, a secret affair, an undetectable gun, a missing
daughter, coordinated terrorists attacks and the assassination of the Russian President. But is he himself an undercover spy
plantedby the CIA?
4. Inspired by the true events surrounding the life
and death of the lead character Anna
Politkovskaya and her book “A Small Corner of
Hell”. Some aspects have been fictionalized for
dramatic purposes.

8. “Kickback” aka “American Undercover” fits in to a long tradition of Anglo-
American-Russo action / spy dramas. From early films such as “From
Russia With Love” through to the recent hit “Enemy At The Gates” there
has always been a certain intrigue with Russian society in western cinema.
Recently with the mass influx of people from CIS countries to the rest of
the world, especially western Europe and the United States this interest
has grown considerably as shown by the success of “The Bourne Films”,
“Eastern Promises”, “Salt”, “Red” and the eighteen Russian based films
sold at this years AFM. These recent successes reinforce our belief that
spy action thriller fans are reliable theater-goers and voracious
consumers of entertainment. Since the genre has continued to prosper for
decades, it can be safely be said that new generations of action fans are
born everyday. We are ideally placed to take advantage of this.

KICKBACK
9. “Kickback” aka “American Undercover” is an original yet universal story
based on events and inspired by the life of journalist Anna Politkovskaya.
I envisage “Kickback” aka“ American Undercover” to be a sharp but
unsaturated film, thus harmonious with the tragedy of the story. Myself
and my DOP Doug Milsome (Full Metal Jacket, Robin Hood, Highlander)
intend to make it both visually exciting yet accessible to the audience by
involving them with the characters and the landscape. We will shoot in
Sofia, Prague, Moscow and Chechnya and set the film in the hues and
palette of Eastern Europe mirroring the contrast between the two
locations and between the two lead characters driving the story.
“KICKBACK”AKA“AMERICANUNDERCOVER”
The film will be a fast paced sharply cut, mostly hand held narrative
taking the audience on a thrilling and emotional journey. The speed of the
dialogue will match the velocity of the plot.
It will reference films such as “In Bruges” and Classics such as “39 Steps”
but will be original in its representation. The reporter female lead is an
independent woman: a very different yet honest representation of
eastern bloc women rarely seen on screen. She will be educated and
urbane and a thinking man’s object of desire.

The film clearly belongs in a popular genre, i.e. mystery/thriller.
The film can be produced with high commercial appeal, cast and
production values that will maximise its sales potential.
We have put together a team of skilled and experienced professionals,
a strong cast and a prestigious worldwide sales agent to ensure that we

commercial success is in lockstep with our
investors.”
