Notas do Editor
Thank you. IHE is pleased to have the opportunity to be here today with all of you and offer you some information as a BC-based, post-secondary training institution.
What’s interesting to note right away is that we do have a secondary operation running in Alberta, as well.
No matter WHICH IHE Training Site a student goes to, they leave with the same possible machine hours & courses, similar credentials and safety ticket training.
As our Operator Grads inevitably will end up working in BOTH provinces respectively as HEO’s.
Working with Industry is something that IHE does very well. We want our graduates ready for work and hire.
We can’t control someone’s attitude, work ethic/aptitude, or willingness to go where the work is, but we do ensure our training courses and safety tickets offered give a head start as possible!
We do that # 1 by dedicated machine seat time and the ability to practice work-based training tasks daily.
And of course, every IHE course offered comes with JOB ASSISTANCE for LIFE.
In 2014 IHE Invested & Upgraded its Fleet purchasing 19 BRAND NEW machines making our total fleet to date 70 Machines Strong!
We are registered as a private career training school in BC with PCTIA # 3395. [Private Career Training Institutions Agency of BC] In fact we voluntarily maintain an Accreditation Status – subject to more monitoring and we were just successfully re-accredited last summer for another 5 year period.
We are registered with the AB government also as a private training school since August 2010.
We are an ITA Designated Trainer. IHE used to be, and voluntarily de-designated with the BC Industry Training Authority in 2008, as we found our students were not having success obtaining employment with a predominantly theory-based, foundations course program.
However, some of our key partners and stakeholders can only access LMA funds for HEO training IF the training partner provider is ITA, so in 2013, much to the happiness of them primarily, we did make re-application and are now designated once again thru 2018.
So we run 2 to 3 shifts at a time: Morning, Afternoon & Late Afternoon shift, when required to meet demand – feedback from Industry right now is they like our third-shift operator hires as working under light plants, mimics the real world more so even!
Each student is given 5 hours of machine training time daily on their very own machine, this includes their pre & post op maintenance & inspection as well as housekeeping tasks such as:
Shoveling tracks, all fluid level checks and machine greasing are part of the Students daily duties.
Field Instructors observe and track Student activities; marks are docked for any Safety Violations and / or poor machine care / housekeeping.
IHE is and always has been about Synergy. What this mean is:
“Always Working with Industry and Employers to keep training relevant in order to meet employer’s needs.”
This is good for everyone, our grads because they are getting relevant training needed to land them a job, and our industry stakeholders because they are getting entry level skilled hires that have been taught real world training and can perform tasks properly without additional on-the-job training.
This is also very beneficial to funders as well to see and report the success the students have from the training!
IHE offers many different course selections, from a Heavy Equipment Operator Course consisting of training on all 6 pieces of equipment, to individual equipment courses.
Students make their course selections based on budget, time constraints and job offers pending!
All machines are Industry-sized and standard... some brand new, some older – a machine clocks an average of 2,000 hours a year, of use.
