- While there is a massive overuse of groundwater resources in South Asia, North America and the Mena region, there is no physical water stress in SSA. The volume of used water for domestic, agricultural and industrial water is below 25% of the annual renewable groundwater resources.
- GIDP results indicate that sustainable groundwater irrigation development could essentially occur in areas inferior to two hectares per cell of twenty-five hectares; this indicates that sustainable groundwater irrigation development should focus on smallholders and in particular very smallholders in the semi-arid Sahel and Eastern Africa region where the development of groundwater irrigation could level up livelihoods by providing food production from reliable and affordable water resources. “areas that are worthwhile to develop with renewable groundwater irrigation” two important corridors: Sahel region and south of it Eastern-Southern Africa Biggest potential for smallholders (areas < 2ha)
