2. La Carlota is a town in
the south of Spain,
… in
Andalusia in the province of
Córdoba
La Carlota is just 30km far from the
beautiful capital, Córdoba.
3. GEOGRAPHY.
La Carlota has a population
of about 12000. Due to its
history, the population is
divided into 11 districts or
municipalities : the town of
La Carlota and ten
departments.
It is mainly an agricultural
area. The building sector
which had developed
greatly in the last few years
has been paralised at the
moment by the recession.
4. La Carlota was founded in 1767 due to the interest of
the king Carlos III to colonize uninhabited areas of
the Guadalquivir valley and Sierra Morena. Settlers
from Central Europe –mainly Germany- were brought
to this place. This is the reason why nowadays Central
European surnames and features persist among its
inhabitants.
5. The town hall building was originally designed as
administrative center of the newly created villages. It
is a key building of the architecture of colonization.
Royal Inn. It was built as a shelter for travellers going
along the royal road.
Marketplace. This beautiful neoclassical building is
used today as a local market.
