2. What are they for?
• They are all around the country and most of the 2/5
of Netherlands is polderized.
• If they weren’t drained, all they country would be
flooded.
• The main activity is agrarian one.
• There are more than a million hectares which are
polderized.
• They’re managed by pumps or drainage canals.

3. Types of polders I
• Pieces of sea which have been occupied by
land.
• Flood plains separated from the sea by a dike.
• Reservoirs which are drained.

4. Types of polders II
• Low lying polders: Low constant water levels
are maintained because they are used in
agriculture.
• High lying polders: High constant water levels
are maintained and they’re used in pasture
areas.

6. The mills
• They avoid the land from being flooded.
• There are the famous “tulip crops”.
• They are also called pumps.

7. Location
• They’re in a low lying areas.
• Andijk and Beemster are one of the most
important polders.
