7. WHAT IS SECOND LANGUAGE
ACQUISITION
Second language acquisition is
concerned with the study of the
way in which an individual
becomes able to use one or
more language different from his
first language.
YANDRES LAO
8. THE EFFECT OF AGE ON SECOND LANGUAGE
ACQUISITION
V. P. COLLIER:
successful language
acquisition depends on the
learner’s age
E. LENNEBERG:
there is a certain period in
acquisition of a second
language
the large majority of adults retain their accent when the
second language is acquired after puberty, whereas children
initiating second language acquisition before puberty have
little or no foreign accent. YANDRES LAO

10. CONCLUSION ON THE EFFECT OF AGE ON
SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION
Based on the Oral Language Skills Acquisition
older children acquire faster
than younger children
Puberty Age Period
(11-15 y.o)
younger students had
retained more accent-free
pronunciation when
compared to adolescents
just past puberty

16. The success in second language acquisition
depends on many factors. Age and motivation
factors are among the most important ones. In
studies, it has been found that if a learner has
a competency in his or her own language, he
or she is more advantageous than those who
have not completed his first language. As to
motivation, it has been found that motivated
students are more successful in second
language acquisition second language
acquisition than those who are not motivated
