Introduction
When we launched Escentric Molecules almost ten years ago, we could never have imagined how the
fragrances would affect people the way they have. It seems almost everyone who wears our scent range has
their own story to share. So we get asked the same questions a lot. How did we come up with the
idea? How does it work?
Mystery is a big part of the romance of perfume, but we never tried to be mysterious. That was one of the
conventions of the fragrance industry that we wanted to resist. So it’s been ironic that we often find
ourselves in the situation where we’re having to explain what the concept behind Escentric Molecules is.
Maybe that’s to be expected – it is quite complex.
On the other hand, customers get so involved that they really want to know the story. There is something
exciting about that – it’s like we’re having a real relationship with the people who wear our perfumes.
But we want to get the story as accurate as possible. That’s why we’ve prepared this manual.
You can read all the background we’ve ever prepared on Escentric. But it’s also important to know that the
story is continually evolving.
For example, when we launched Escentric 01 and Molecule 01, based on the aroma-molecule Iso E Super,
we were often asked if the fragrances were based on pheromones, because of the remarkable results people
who wore the fragrances were getting. In early 2013, our nose Geza Schoen was at an event in Germany
where Professor Doctor Hanns Hatt, the world’s leading researcher on the understanding on the perception
of smell, conceded that Iso E Super does, in fact, trigger a pheromonal response.
In this case, Geza’s instinct has been backed up by our experience.
