During the presentation, I will share how I supported a national-winning team of middle school students to develop their STEM-related mobile app through on-site training and other virtual scaffolding mechanism. I will discuss the tips, challenges, and lessons learned based on my reflection as a computing educator. This presentation should provide practical information that can be applied to other contexts of computing education as it involves various aspects that are commonly relevant, such as project management, communication, and technical consideration during app development. I hope my sharing of the rewarding experiences with the community can help encourage more quality educators and App Inventor enthusiasts to consider applying to join App Inventor Training Corp. After the interview, the student will then submit a paper. You should pay particular attention to diversity, social, and economic justice and ethical issues and concerns. Include information on the following areas: Agency background Name of the agency, Brief history of the agency (via their website) Name of Interviewee Interviewee title Proposed time and date of interview Agency Leadership What is the leadership structure of the agency? Are different communities represented? What is the process for hiring leaders? Staffing How many staff members are employed at the agency? What is the employee to client ratio? What are their qualifications? Does staff makeup match the makeup of the communities served? What professional development is available to staff? How is employee performance evaluated? How often are staff members eligible for raises? How often are meetings held with staff? Is there high or low turnover? Interviewee Background How many employees does interviewee supervise? How long has he/she/they been in leadership roles? How long has he/she been employed there Client Access to Services What are the programs and services offered? Are programs accessible for participants? What barriers do participants encounter when trying to access services and what is the agency doing to eliminate those barriers? Are the services able to address the needs of the community? How are programs and services evaluated? Does agency solicit community and stakeholder feedback on services? If so, what is the method for soliciting feedback and how often is feedback solicited? Strategic Plan Does the agency have a current strategic plan? What was the process for developing it? Is it current? What is the format? Agency Infrastructure Does the technology meet the needs of the staff? If not, is there a plan for upgrading technology? Who handles communications with the public? This session will be an engaging conversation for current and future civic engagement practitioners, practitioner-scholars, and those who support their work. Attendees will be among the first to review and utilize a new publication resource guiding professional development and career advancement for professionals. Attendees will engage in a conversation with a panel about this publication. The discussion will focus on a framework for understanding the competencies needed in the role of community service-learning professional. The session will review four categories, as outlined in the publication: Organizational Manager, Institutional Strategic Leader, Field Contributor, and Community Innovator. In the first half of the session, a panel of practitioners who helped to develop the framework and publication will reflect on their experiences and engage attendees in a discussion of challenges and lessons learned. The second half of the session will allow attendees to utilize this framework in order to think about and plan for their own professional development and the position of their work in the institution and community. Facilitators will lead a process of personal inventory and allow time for discussion and planning of development opportunities for field and career advancement.
