About the Client
Palliative care equipment can be expensive or difficult to acquire. No one knows
this better than the team at Glowworms Home. Glowworms Home allows family
and caregivers who have cared for family members with a life-limiting illness, to
donate no-longer-used homecare equipment and consumables to others in need.
This start-up community organisation was founded by palliative care workers as a
way to bridge the gap for family and carers needing to access homecare and
consumable items to their loved one maintain independence and be cared for
safely in the home.
Client Objective
Glowworms Home’s objective was clear from the get-go. They wanted to start an
online community of people who have surplus or no-longer-needed palliative care
equipment to give, trade or sell these items to people who now require them. On
the new website, users would be able to list their items for free and provide an
easy method for others to contact them and arrange for an exchange of the items
offline. There were a few functionality requirements that were important to
Glowworms Homes:
• Users can freely and easily add, edit and remove listings
• Users can search in their area for a particular item and see results ranked in
relevance or proximity
• Users can contact each other directly
• Easily found in Search Engines
iFactory Solution
We knew we wanted to see this vision come to life, so got straight to work looking
for a solution that met their functional requirements and budget. iFactory opted for
a WordPress theme with classified listings, which balanced their functionality
requirements and worked within their budget.
Users can create an account to access the portal where they can either post or
browse for items under a certain category. The front-end listing submission allows
the ability for users selling items to add photos, descriptions, contact info and
social media integration for sharing their post. We also enabled an advanced
search function that allowed users to browse for items within a radius or view
listings based on area via a Google Map Integration.
