The research report Presentation addresses the stigma related to the mental health in our society. This study was intended to increase understanding of peoples’ views of mental illness by developing and administering measures of knowledge and attitudes of people toward mental illnesses.
The research conducted through questionnaires regarding the mental health stigma is reviewed and analyzed that indicates that the majority of the general public holds negative stereotypes towards people with psychological problems.
Hence, a model has been proposed to illustrate what are the peoples’ attitudes towards and knowledge about the mental health, why is it a taboo to talk about this topic, how can this stigma prevent the people from getting help for the psychological difficulties and solutions for reducing and dealing with the mental health stigma are discussed.

Can be defined using words like hate & discrimination.
Two types of Stigma. Stigma
Public Stigma:
Society collectively reinforces negative

Self-stigma:
when individuals accept the negative attitudes of

of respect than others due to their illness.

Such reactions are common when people are brave enough to admit they have a mental

circles or within the workplace.

Person with mental health problem can’t be recovered. Actually, mentally ill people can get
better.
Therapy is a wastage of time when you can get a pill. But it depends on individual, treatment
might include therapy, medication or both.
Friends and family can’t do anything for person suffering from mental health issues. But the
fact is that loved ones can be important influences to help someone get treatment and service
they need.
Another myth regarding mental illness is that prevention doesn’t works. In fact it is possible to
prevent mental illness.

People don’t seek for mental health care to avoid the label of mental illness.
It diminishes self-esteem and robs people of social opportunities.
Stigma makes a person unacceptable in the society that leads to worsen
mental health condition.
Feeling shame would resist disclosure which would result in no treatment.
