2. Use of opening shot.
• The opening shot
shows us the city
skyline showing us
that it is taking place
in Gothum city. And
sets the scene for this
sequence and in tern
the rest of the film.

3. Use of masks!
• The use of masks gives
hints about the joker
being behind this robbery
• It also dehumanises the
robbers
• Toward the end of the
scene we find out that the
main reason the masks
are worn it to hide which
one of the robbers is the
joker.

4. Use of dialogue
• In one of the first lines of the
sequence we see that one person
in the van says ‘I know why they
call him the joker’ this is then
juxtaposed with another on the
roof saying ‘so why do they call
him the joker?’ this tells us who is
behind the robbery
• We are also told he is not hear
and this gives a sense of mystery
as to where and who he is.

5. Use of killing off robbers
• The killing off of the
robbers adds a sense
of suspension as we
want to know who is
going to be the next
to be killed but also
adds a sense of
brutality and
foreshadows the
murder which is to
come.

6. Intro of joker
The introduction of the joker at the
end of the scene introduces the villain
of the sequence and his line ‘what
doesn’t kill you simply makes you
stranger’ foreshadows the madness
and chaos which is to come. And sets
the mood for the maddness.

7. Use of music
• The use of music in the
sequence starts to create
a sense of suspense and
tension at the start from
the moment of the people
zip wiring across the
street to the joker leaving.
It also changes the pace
of the action in this
sequance
