2. Mise en Scene
• Film stock is used to create a visually interesting beginning highlighting
a sense of time and maybe danger and violence. It also foreshadows
what is about to happen.
• There are many props used such as cars, falling debris, guns and drugs
this suggests the genre of the film, most likely thriller/crime?
• In the opening sequence many actors are used and all have very little
camera time except Daniel Craig in the shop. This could be because he
is the main character.
• It contrast from a dangerous scene to a hippy, sensual scene which
contrasts the rest of the film which suggests this was a happier time as
the lighting is more lit and it is relaxed compared to the first shot.
• In both the explosion scene the woman behind the car looks scared
and fragile which suggests that in the film women will be seen as
insignificant and men will be dominant. In the hippy scene there are
multiple women all who are looking sexual and luxurious but are all
focused on the man. We don’t even see the final women as she walks
across the camera, only her legs which suggest that in this film women
are only to be seen as a mans property. She also walks towards the
prison and then it changes to a man holding a baton this indicates that
there is going to be violence, possibly towards women?
3. Camera
• The camera has a continuous panorama effect which shows that its telling a story.
• It is slow throughout which could suggest the effects of drugs to a person?
• I really like how its filmed, there are moments of slow motion and then pacing up. I think the way it
is shot as its clear it is a flashback of time.
4. Editing
• I think the editing is incredible in this scene as the cutting as transitions
are done really swiftly and effectively.
• The shot from the woman's head to the man is amazing as it is done with such
preciseness and quality.
• I think it is edited overall really well as they have many different camera shots including
wide shot, close up and panorama. The camera continuously moves and never stops only slows a little, I
think this is effective as it makes it obvious it is telling a story from the past and then changes once gets
to the present day with the
main character of the film.
• I think the best editing is turning the FCUK drug bottles into everyday medicines, it indicates clearly the
plot of the film and is essential in letting the audience know what the film is about.
5. Sound
• At the very beginning there is a monologue being said which is non diegetic, then after a quick
explosion a soundtrack adds to the narration.
• The dialogue is mainly about drugs and it matches the different shots within the opening sequence.
He gives a lot of content.
• The explosion is a very good way to show the audience what the film is going to be about-
corruption and violence, adding to the next shot ‘summer of love’ and prison shot, the film also will
be about drugs and the business within that market.
• In the opening sequence there are many voiceovers which include a man shouting ‘fucking get
down’, women laughing and in the prison a voiceover, repeating Daniel Craig saying ‘work it out
mate, were in the wrong fucking game’. This use of this suggests that there are going to be many
characters in the film and possibly many different storylines.
• I think the soundtrack works well within the beginning.
