2. This is an old story. It is not true, but people tell
it to their children.
Cinderella had not father and mother. She lived
with her aunt. Her aunt had two daughters. They
were fat and ugly. The aunt and her daughters didn’t
love Cinderella, because she was beautiful. She
did all the work in the house. She worked very hard,
but they always said: “You are a lazy girl”.
Poor Cinderella was in the kitchen all day, cooked,
washed the dishes and looked after the fire.
The ugly sisters wore beautiful clothes but
Cinderella had only one dirty dress. She was very
unhappy.
One day a message came from the King. The
King asked all the ladies to come to a dance. He
wanted to choose a wife for his son. The two ugly
sisters wanted to go to the dance.
3. When Cinderella heard about the dance she
wanted to go too.
Cinderella didn’t want to go to the dance.
The aunt and the ugly sisters took Cinderella to the
dance with them.
Her aunt and the ugly sisters laughed at her but
didn’t take her to the dance.
A coach came to the door and the ugly sisters
went to the dance with their mother. Poor
Cinderella sat by the fire and cried.
Suddenly she heard a voice: “Don’t cry,
Cinderella. I will help you.”
Cinderella looked up and saw a little old lady.
She had a stick in her hand.
“First, bring me a pumpkin”, said the little old
lady. “Then bring me a mousetrap with the mice in it.”
When Cinderella brought them, the little lady
waved her stick. The pumpkin became a big
coach. The mice became horses. The lady waved
her stick and Cinderella wore a beautiful dress and
glass shoes.
“Now get into the coach”, said the little lady, “and
go to the dance. But you must be at home before
midnight”.
4. Cinderella liked the dance very much.
She was very beautiful and the Prince danced only with her.
But she forgot the words of the little old lady.
Suddenly the clock began to strike twelve. She ran
down to the coach. Soon the clock finished to strike
twelve, the coach became a pumpkin and the horses
became mice. Poor Cinderella went home and
began to work.
The Prince ran after Cinderella and found one of
her glass shoes on the steps.
The next day he sent men with the glass shoe to
find Cinderella.
“If anyone can wear this small shoe”, he said,
“she must be the beautiful lady and I shall marry
her”.
The men brought the shoes to the ugly sisters.
“I shall try first”, said the younger sister. “I shall
wear it and be the Princess.”
“No”, said the older sister. “I shall wear it and be
the Princess.”
They tried the shoe, but their feet were big and
the shoe was small. The men laughed.
Cinderella tried the shoe too. It was her shoe.
The Prince married her and they were happy.
