Project proposal title and date:
Through the glass mirror. 17/2/22
Main area of activity:
I am going to be working in moving image making a short horror film, the film will be a
psychological POV horror.
Rationale:
In the past two years I have made three horror related projects. The first project was the music
video I made for my year one final major project from this I learned I could make something
become quite weird and disturbing just by using items that people have in their home but, have an
emotional connection to and destroying them. The next horror related product I made was the key
film, I made this creepy just by the mood of the lighting so I know the lighting and colour grading
can have a significant impact on the film. The last horror related media I made was a short film
called isolation the way I edited scenes together especially using double exposure techniques and
the film very unsettling. Next year I will be attending Manchester Metropolitan university taking the
filmmaking course, I chose video because it will help me be more prepared for my course and I
want to work in the film industry once I graduate. Horror is my preferred genera to work in because
I like how there are many different sub genera’s to horror so there aren’t many limitations. Another
reason I chose horror is because I've always loved weird, creepy and scary things and I think
horror is the best genera to let me display that in my work.
Project Concept:
My concept for my project is to make a phycological horror short film. The film will only have one
person staring in it, so they are the focus of the film. In the film there will be something watching
the main character from outside looking in through the windows. I am going to be using
perspective as what makes the film scary and unsettling so that you never actually see what it is
that is watching the main character. I will be exploring the fear of being watched and the fear of the
dark as these are two quite common fears and are perfectly normal to have. For research I will
watch other horror movies that main plot line is based off perspective and watching people I will
focus on the conventions and characteristics of these films and the affect/ impact they have on the
audience. I am also going to watch some phycological horrors like Hereditary and Midsomar as Ari
Astar is a strong influence for me. Watching these types of movies will help me with my project
because it will help me to understand the conventions and characteristics of the
phycological/perspective sub genres of horror.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
For my evaluation of my work, I will keep a reflection diary throughout the entire process of making
the short film, this will help to fill in any gaps of how my work is going and give extra context. At the
end of making the film I will make an evaluation PowerPoint so that I can discuss my work I have
done over the weeks. I will evaluate things like what went good and bad, my thoughts on the whole
proses, how the project developed over time, what skills have I learnt and developed throughout
this project, for feedback my source will be my peers I will ask them what they liked about my final
peace and how they think I could improve.
