The Importance Of Environmental Conservation
Among the world, natural parks and nature reserves are used to protect wildlife, biodiversity, and
historical landmarks for indigenous people. A recent study has shown that natural parks and nature
reserves are additionally aiding in the slowdown of global warming. Carbon emissions from tropical
deforestation have been prevented over the years 2000–2012 by one third [1]. Defending biodiversity
will help sustain large number of plant and animal species, and the variety of genes will not only
provide a variety of organisms, but also help ensure survival of the ecosystem. Healthy ecosystems
are more resilient in recovering from natural disasters with more biodiversity, and the survivability
among social and biological organisms within will continue to thrive.
Natural forests are home to over 13 million distinct species. Over a billion people depend on tropical
forests: communities use them for water, food, housing, and medicine [2]. Furthermore, forests help
prevent billions of tonnes of carbon from being released into the atmosphere. Deforestation causes up
to twenty percent of all human emissions of greenhouse gases, which is more than all of the world's
transport [2]. It is an unsustainable act that is a leading contributor to global warming. The mass
burning of trees leads to severe air pollution locally and thousands of miles away. At its current rate,
tropical rain forests will not be viable ecosystems within one–hundred years. A method to preventing
deforestation is

Protection Of Endangered Species Essay
Out of all the species that have ever existed since the beginning of time, 98% of them are extinct
(Facts). There are an estimated 5–10 million species that exist currently and only 1.5 million have
been identified (Sherry, 2). Scientists classify species into six different groups: plants, animals,
insects, algae, fungi, and microorganisms (Today's Situation). In the tropical rainforest alone, most
species are disappearing at the rate of 1% a year (Sherry, 6). If the current trend continues, at least
50% of all currently existing species will be either extinct or endangered by the year 2050 (Today's
Situation). For this reason endangered species deserve more protection than the current regulations
provide.
Throughout history there have...show more content...
The next major step by the government to protect and increase threatened and endangered species
population was the Endangered Species Act of 1973. It stated that "It is declared to be the policy
of congress that all federal departments and agencies shall seek to conserve endangered species and
threatened species and shall utilize their authorities in furthermore of the purpose of this act"
(Sherry, 9). The quality of a species habitat is crucial because it cannot survive without it. No
matter how successful breeding in captivity is, reintroducing species into the wild is useless if
there is no wild to return them to (Habitat Preservation). To rehabilitate a natural environment it is
a good idea to plant native vegetation and provide homes for associated animals in the
environment (Habitat Preservation). Zoos are also helping to breed species in captivity with
environments as close to the wild as possible. In certain circumstances these efforts are worthwhile
and the plants or animals are returned to their native environments (Zoos and Reserves). These
efforts have proven to preserve unique species that otherwise would have been lost forever. With all
the work that goes into helping preserve species, there are also a lot of benefits that come out of it.
The most obvious benefit of preserving species is for their uses in medical advancement. Out of all
the flowering plants that exist in the

Sustainable development that allows the present generation to meet our current needs, without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. In other words, sustainable
development is a inseparable system of economic, social, resource and protection of environmental
which not only can attain the objective of economic development, but also it can protect the natural
resources of atmospheric, freshwater, marine and environment. It can make the future generations
live and work in peace and environmental protection. Sustainable development has the connection
with environmental protection, but it cannot be equated with environmental protection.
environmental protection is one of the important aspect of environmental protection. The core of
sustainable development is development, but the premise of social and economic development is
controlling of population strictly, improving the quality of people, protecting the environment and
using the resources permanently. There are 5 main points of sustainable development nowadays: 1.
the support of development, 2. the cleanness of water, 3. the green trade, 4. the exploitation of
energy, 5. the protection of environment. Specifically, the support of development is that developed
countries enlarge the economic assistance to the developing countries. The proportion of the
assistance should reach 0.7% of GDP. 2. the cleanness of water means that economizing the water

Environment: for Preservation or Exploitation
Our natural environment is an integral part of our world today and is valued for varying
reasons in society. The general public, academics, and environmentalists etc., all share different
opinions on the function or use of our natural environment and provide interesting perspectives
on the role of the environment. It is evident that society today deeply values the environment as
numerous sectors encourage conservation of natural resources and preservation of natural sites;
however, in order to fully understand the formulation of this environment–oriented ideology
today, it is beneficial to examine its origins in American environmental history. John Muir,
Gifford Pinchot, and Aldo Leopold are generally...show more content...
As the article progresses, Pinchot determines two
other qualities associated with conservation: prevention of waste, and conservation for a larger
population. The aforementioned three pillars that carry the weight of Pinchot's idea of
conservation extremely utilitarian in principle and governance. Unlike Muir, who continually
reminds the reader of the importance of nature for aesthetic appeal and emotional well–being,
Pinchot is wholly concerned with preserving natural resources in order to exploit them in the
most economically beneficial and convenient manner.
The entire article lacks regard for nature and Pinchot seems to believe that nature is there
to be corrupted and savaged by mankind. Wilderness preservation, which should be conducted
under the principle of preserving wildlife in order to see it develop and flourish as an
independent life form, is instead completely undermined, and thought to serve humankind's
unrestrained and unjustified needs. One of the most striking examples of the inherent perversity
in Pinchot's article is revealed when he declares that "The first duty of the human race is to
control the earth it lives upon."(Pinchot 45). If we are to take a closer look at his diction, we see
the use of the word "control" fits quite neatly with the entire picture Pinchot paints before

Importance Of Protecting The Environment Essay
Our environment undoubtedly has many things we can use to benefit our everyday lives. Even if
our environment is not in tip–top shape, we need to start taking care of it better. If we don't many
things will happen. These things include plants dying, animals going extinct, air becoming polluted,
coral reefs dying, and water rapidly coming contaminated. Another problem our environment has to
face, overcome, or adapt too is Global Warming. Global Warming has and will continue to impact our
environment worldwide if we do not begin taking immediate action and do something to protect our
environment.
Protecting our environment is indeed the first action that should be taken. Protecting the
environment should take place locally and globally in my opinion. There are many things that our
local environment could do that would have have a tremendous impact on our environment that
genuinely would not take oodles of effort. A few of these could be as easy as recycling soda cans,
old school or work papers, and glass bottles and taking them to a local recycling center. When you
recycle you are reusing things or making them into new things. Two more examples would be
hosting or participating in a highway clean up, or planting a community garden at a park. Globally,
humans are responsible for Greenhouse Gasses, pollution, and fossil fuel shortages. Globally, if
everyone pitched in just a little bit, greenhouse gas emissions could go down drastically. The way we
could cut these emissions

Dear Editor, I am writing to you today because of the Bridger Teton National Forest. I am
reaching out to you and appealing to you as a conservationist. I believe that this large area of land
can be very useful because of the resources it can provide. It can provide gas and oil so this way
we don't have to be dependent on it from others around the world. We don't have to rely on foreign
sources when it comes to this. There are many concerns if we do start this process in the Forest.
What I can tell you is that before anything will be done they will have to go through a process. This
means that they will need to evaluate and look at the risk...show more content...

Dear Editor,
My name is Mia Fabro. I wanted to write to you regarding the Bridger Teton National Forest
located in Wyoming. This is one of the largest forest around and it has really never been touched.
I want to write to you and appeal to you as a preservationist. I believe that this forest has a lot of
potential. I do not believe in using this land for any resources. The beauty it brings should not be
damaged. It should be left as is. People can sight see and take pictures. This place is breathtaking.
I know that many believe that the gas and oil it may provide can make a lot of changes in our
lives and make our country better. But, the harm it may cause when the land is polluted and as
well as the air we breathe is not as great as the view it gives us. Nature is beautiful and that is what
I want to instill in people's mind. The main reason I want to reach out to you today is because I
need your help. I want you to write something amazing about Bridger Teton National Forest. I want
people to see and know that this place should

Disadvantages Of Conservation
The efforts of conservation can have many purposes and can bring help to area's that need help
environmentally. They can also be organized by well paid government organizations or local
groups funded by the community that they live in. Some examples of government groups are
National Park Service, Natureserve, Bureau of land management, Ocean Conservancy, and Traffic
along with many, many more. There might be a lot of government but there are many many more
local groups that are documented, undocumented or even help but don't put a name with their
cause.Even though both of these types of these conservation groups have the same goal and idea
there is one big difference, and to be honest it's a pretty big one. This difference in funding.
Funding is also how big government groups help local efforts. A example of this is Nature
Conversely Donating money and lending help to local groups to protect of a 100 million acres of
land around the world. Large scale things can also complement little efforts by just helping around.
All over the United States little and large groups work together to to clean the environment help plant
trees and don't cut them down and stuff and also clean roads( adopt a highway foundation or
whatever it's called ). This is an example of government conservation groups helping locals because
most likely without the help of government groups local efforts would probably not get off the floor
and be able to anything. This once again comes back to the big

The preservation of the environment and conservation of energy are dynamic topics in the political
world of today and actions to be taken are discussed every day. It is time to advance beyond the
ordinary gasoline engine automobile that has polluted our environment for several decades. The
recurring problem that hasn't been solved is the pollution from automobiles that harms the
environment and uses fuel that won't be around some time in the future. Neglect for the preservation
of the environment has spread like an infection over the years, and automobiles are major players in
the pollution of the environment. A change is vital, and hybrid cars have begun to lead the way to
that change, besting regular car in cost–effectiveness and...show more content...
The environmental impacts from automobiles come in the dozens ranging from brake and tire
debris to the toxicity of the lead acid batteries in cars. These problems are also not to be taken
lightly. For example, the debris from tires and braking raises the toxicity levels of nearby soils and
leads to the formation of black carbon. Both pollutants have been shown to cause lung toxicity and
significant portions of particulate matter in urban areas. Painting and coating cause discharges of
harmful materials such as nickel, copper, and hexavalent chromium into the atmosphere. Batteries
are a more critical part of the automobile, and even though they can be recycled they account for the
release of 42,000 tons of unwanted lead release into the environment. The plethora of environmental
problems from automobiles today is affecting the lifespan of our atmosphere and causing a
downward spiral that is exponentially increasing. With these problems, the transportation revolution
is knocking on the door and as the guardians of our planet, humanity needs to find a way to decrease
pollution and that way has been opened with the hybrid car.
Hybrid cars are more beneficial to the environment than their traditional counterparts, but not all
hybrid vehicles function the same way. To decrease emissions all hybrid cars run on some form of
electricity, whether it run on pure electricity or splits power with

The University and Environmental Preservation
The University and Environmental Preservation
Caring for the environment has traditionally been thought of as a responsibility of environmental
organizations such as Greenpeace or the Sierra Club. Universities have never been thought of as the
leaders of environmental preservation–until now. Since universities are looked upon with high
regard, many people including President Baker of Cal Poly, feel that it is the responsibility of the
university to set an example of how the environment is respected and conserved. In his Earth Day
speech in 2004, President Baker claims that Cal Poly finds it suitable to be a signatory of the
Talloires Declaration. This is a 10–point plan signed by over 300 universities worldwide setting out

Specifically, he mentions the web page and examples of actions taken by the Facilities Planning
Department. This organization has implemented activities and ideals that are supported by principles
of environmental sustainability. Also, in compliance with the Talloires Declaration, Cal Poly teaches
environmentally responsible citizenship through educational programs. For example, several
colleges offer degree programs and minors that provide emphasis on principles of sustainability. One
last piece of evidence is when President Baker mentions the specific learning centers and institutions
that provide environmental education.
Baker introduces his evidence of the university's compliance by referring to Cal Poly's Master Plan
that sets out the university's mission. According to him, many elements are included in this mission
to create "a comprehensive vision of sustainability," one of these elements being environmental
protection. Although this is a valid reason, President Baker also states other reasons that are not
pertinent to the environment. He speaks of a personally safe university and one that is more
culturally diverse.
Throughout the speech, President Baker displays a sense of urgency and passion about
environmental preservation. As the president of the university and host of the event, he introduces
the issue and his stance

Economic Conservation vs. Environmental Conservation
Around the world people are being affected by conservation and endangered species laws and
regulations. Some want the biggest house on the most beautiful land and have the money to get it,
while others feel that we have developed enough and there has to be more land left to nature. I feel
that while endangered species should be protected, their protection should not change the way that
local people function, and interact with one another. This has prompted a battle of economic growth
versus environmental conservation that can be found both locally such as in Duxbury,
Massachusetts, and world wide such as the southern mountainous region of Vietnam.
Duxbury is a small town...show more content...
However, for the past few seasons the beach seems to have become less accessible because of the
increase in Piping Plover, an endangered species of shorebirds, which have been migrating to
Duxbury beach. I have been to the beach when a line of cars are being denied access because the
birds have moved, or the Harbormasters can not find one. According to Debora Katz in a recent
series of articles she wrote for The Duxbury Clipper, there are only about 2500 piping plover pairs
left, and they are only found in North America. The adult plover weighs only about 1.5 to 2 ounces
and is about seven inches long ("Plight of the Plover,"2003) The birds do not adapt well to coastal
development, and when they are not watched out for by organizations such as the Audubon Society,
there population begins to plummet ("Pitfalls," 2003).
Senior shorebird scientist at the Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences, Brian Harrington,
conducted a study in 2002 looking for a connection between human activity on the beach and the
how the needs of the shorebirds were or were not met. Harrington concluded that in areas of on–sand
vehicle access the bird flocks are disturbed more often than in areas banned to cars, and when the
flocks are disturbed more often, they are using up more of the energy that they are trying to gain
and save for their long flight to the south in August ("Pitfalls," 2003). Also according to Katz, each

Value of Biodiversity and the Preservation of Species
As a result of the increasing environmental awareness of scientists and laymen, new issues have
evolved around pressing ecological problems. Ecologists have discovered how important retaining
biodiversity really is to humanity. While politicians often have other economic agendas,
environmentalists are working hard to push this relatively new knowledge through political
institutions using economic arguments. The preservation of our surroundings can create new jobs and
promote economic efficiency, more so than the jobs which are currently destroying our ecosystem.
For example, in a few years, workers in the fishing industry may be out of jobs due to
over–consumption of certain...show more content...
Biodiversity also refers to genetic diversity where the structure from one sexually reproducing
individual to the next varies in its code, having vast differences within its own species. An estimated
17,500 species are lost every year and the major destruction is caused by human activity
(DiSilvestro, 1993)!
Why should biodiversity be preserved? One answer is for the physical, spiritual, and emotional
well–being of people themselves (DiSilvestro, 1993). These aspects of our lives can be enhanced
by nature, and in protecting nature, we are also saving biodiversity. This perspective has brought us
zoos, national parks and wildlife refuges, as well as other recreational areas such as dunes, offering
us a diversity of opportunities to experience. By protecting biodiversity we are saving innate
pleasures of emotions, intellectual stimulation, and spiritual gratification. In our urban society of
today, we often act as spectators, rather than participants in our own lives, i.e. attending movies,
ballet, theatre, concerts, or sporting events (DiSilvestro, 1993). However, we can be active
participants in nature simply by being immersed in it, when there exist opportunities to do so.
One argument against biodiversity is that the diminishing of species is something that has naturally
occurred throughout history and will continue to do so. The criticism of this argument lies

Environmental Preservation Of Bees
What comes to mind when you think of bees? Personally, I think of honey and bee stings.
Fortunately, bees provide us with a lot more than just honey. Believe it or not, they play a significant
role in the sustenance of our ecosystem, and contribute to a third of everything that we eat. Bees are
among many important pollinators, that help to increase the quality and yields of crops produced for
human consumption, such as; nuts, fruits, vegetables and many other plants. Sadly, due to
urbanization and modern farming practices, bee habitats are increasingly declining.
Summary of Article
Luckily for wild bees and our ecosystem, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts have partnered with Pollinator
Partnership, a non–profit organization dedicated to protecting pollinators such as bees, to develop
and create bee hotels. Built using recycled materials, these miniature hotels serve the greater
purpose of protecting and preserving bee species around the world, also allowing bees a safe place

North America, including the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. In addition to Fairmont, farmers can

Plant preservation is a constant struggle for botanists attempting to help plants that are on the verge
of extinction. According to John Vidal from the Huffington Post, "Scientists estimate that 150–200
species of plant, insect, bird and mammal become extinct every 24 hours". While some plants are,
evolutionarily speaking, not savable many others can still be protected. With the astounding
number of plants that are already dying off it is no wonder something must be done to help protect
plants. In the past the only way to monitor some plants would be to either venture far distances
even deep within jungles or stay close to the area under protection. While this method does allow
for the plants to be closely monitored there has been a new technology that could make this process
much simpler. Global Positioning System or GPS combined with GIS or Geographic Information
System is a way that, from anywhere, botanists could check on the entire population of plants
around the world. With the press of a button the area of the Congo or even Manila could be watch
over from anywhere in the world. The preservation of plants in today's society is more important
than ever and with the correct technological tools we can better protect many integral plants. While
many will not see the effects day to day from the extinction of some plants there are many plants
that if lost could be detrimental to entire world. From medicinal plants to plants used as a food

Environmental health is the science that studies how the environment influences the human disease
and health. Environment means things that are natural to us in the environment, for instance air,
water, and soil. However, it also covers the physical, chemical, biological, and social features that
surround us every day. The physical environment is the man–made or built structures that include our
living, work, and even schools. Included in the community systems such as the roads and our

The pollution has both chronic and acute effects on our health, and affects many of our systems and
organs. The health consequences of lower levels of pollution have been more difficult to decide. The
first cause is that people differ in response to the environment and the toxics. When we are exposed
to the different conditions caused by the environment, the variation is wide because of how we react.
With this variability of the population, it can mask the effects that do occur in a sensitive segment of
the population. The second difficulty is our age, and the timing of the exposures and how it will
influence both sensitivity to the environmental agent, and the type of effect it will cause our health.
Infants and children may acquire lifelong damage compared to us adults. Environmental regulation
and pollution control will remain an important cornerstone of the public health policy. The focus will
be prevention, instead of disease treatment. Control of the pollution is a highly cost–effective means
ensuring public health. With the contaminated environments and the work hazards in occupations,
improving the pollution control may lead to a reduced health care disparities. When the health of all
citizens is protected that a nation can fulfill its potential. Another reason we could consider is the
climate change. The climate poses a challenge to our health. Threats to our health caused by a toxin
or disease pathogen, there are ways the

Dear Editor,
I am writing to you in regard to the Bridger –Teton National Forest. I write to you as someone who
believes in preservation. I believe that the forest should be preserved and not conserved. The Bridger
–Teton National Forest is a landmark and should be kept that way. "It is a place where locals find
solitude in huge tracts of forest backcountry when nearby wilderness areas and national parks are
crowded with out–of–state visitors. It's also a place that supports traditional, sustainable activities
such as outfitting, guiding, ranching, and recreation" ("Wyoming Outdoor Council" 2009–2013). All
of these values are being threatened because the forest is being considered for oil and gas
development. While oil and gas may be useful to us, I do not think that the forest should suffer the
consequences. The natural resources should be left alone for everyone to enjoy in its natural state.
To upset this would be environmentally incorrect.

Conservation of energy and a preservation of the environment are popular and active topics in
today's political world. "According to Frost and Sullivan Transportation, fuel economy has risen to
among the top three important factors for current vehicle purchase" (Brooke). Seeing a skyrocket in
gasoline prices and an increase in vehicular pollution shows the need for change in how vehicles are
designed. It is undeniably time to evolve beyond the status quo of the current gasoline driven
automobiles that continue to contaminate the atmosphere. The overlaying issue is that these
machines consistently pollute the world while running on a natural resource that won't last the
human race for long. Neglect for the automobile–induced pollution has spread like wildfire, and
has been proven to be a key player in the cause of pollution. Change is needed, and the rise of
hybrid vehicles leads the way to that change, boasting cost–effectiveness and hardware that is

In the automotive industry, there are drastic improvements and innovations in vehicular technology.
These advancements are bred by research about our world and society, helping us understand how to

Preserving Our Environment
Many people assume that the environment is in no danger. They believe that with advancing
technology, we don't need to worry about renewing natural resources, recycling, and finding new
ways to produce energy. They argue that one person in the world does not make a large difference. In
actuality, each individual's contribution greatly affects our environment. Our natural resources are
running low, and we must work together to save them and the Earth from ruin.
Recycling is so important in the effort to preserve our environment for future generations. We are
running out of places to put landfills. My neighbor, Nick, believes that the U.S. has enough land for
our own waste, and we...show more content...
Not only does this use up 85% of their waste, leaving behind only ash, but it also preserves the
fossil fuels that they would have otherwise had to use for energy to produce heat. They have been
forced to come up with ideas like this because they do not have enough space for landfills, and as a
result, they have greatly contributed to helping the environment. An additional alternative source of
energy comes from the sun. Already there is talk about solar powered cars, and many people
currently have solar panels installed in their homes. This eliminates the need to use large amounts of
fossil fuels for heat and power.
Recycling also saves natural resources such as trees that are cut down and not replaced at a quick
enough rate. According to Greenpeace, in the past thirty years, fifteen percent of the Amazon rain
forest has been destroyed by logging. Not only are the trees gone, but lost forever are the thousand
of species of plants and animals that call the Amazon home. It is also infringing on the livelihood
of Native Indian tribes that live deep in the forest. Recycling the paper we already have would cut
down dramatically on our need to produce more, and saving these precious natural areas would then
be possible.
Nick also argues that recycling takes too much time and is an inconvenience. The simple answer to
this is a call for better methods of recycling. Easier access and more locations would

The Future of Our Precious Environment Essay
The Future of our Precious Environment
The most effective way of sustaining the environment has been an enduring, controversial argument.
Some believe that the only way of saving the environment is by considering it sacred and leaving it
untouched, which relates to John Muir's idea of preservation. Others understand that it is impossible
to draw a line between civilization and the environment, but there can be a balance between the two.
This is what Gifford Pinchot argued through his idea of conservation, which he defines as "the wise
management of natural resources" (Hott & Garey). In contemporary United States, the dispute
between the two approaches is seen by the way environment issues are being acknowledged; such as
climate change,...show more content...
As John Mellor claims in The Intertwining of Environmental Problems and Poverty, "In developing
countries, environmental problems and poverty are inseparable" (488). Not only does the
environment assist in the advancement of civilization, but it is a necessity for underdeveloped
countries and if used responsibly, can allow for their improvement as well.
Gifford Pinchot understood that there is no line between civilization and the wilderness, but natural
resources should be utilized responsibly. In The Fight for Conservation, Gifford Pinchot wrote,
"The central thing for which conservation stands is to make this country the best possible place to
live in, both for us and for our descendants" (79). His notion of conservation, which is a balance
between society and the environment, is an efficacious way of allowing for the advancement of
humanity and satisfying the needs of underdeveloped countries. Gifford Pinchot also knew if natural
resources were made public, people would feel more responsible in maintaining their environment.
Like Gifford Pinchot, Edward O. Wilson knew the efficiency of conservation because there is no
line between "natural capital" and civilization, but there can be ethics, because, as he justifies in The
Solution, "everyone has some kind of environmental ethic" (510). The policy that will succeed in
contemporary United States is for people to use "environmental ethic" or "moral reasoning," because

Environment Preservation Essay

  • 1. The Importance Of Environmental Conservation Among the world, natural parks and nature reserves are used to protect wildlife, biodiversity, and historical landmarks for indigenous people. A recent study has shown that natural parks and nature reserves are additionally aiding in the slowdown of global warming. Carbon emissions from tropical deforestation have been prevented over the years 2000–2012 by one third [1]. Defending biodiversity will help sustain large number of plant and animal species, and the variety of genes will not only provide a variety of organisms, but also help ensure survival of the ecosystem. Healthy ecosystems are more resilient in recovering from natural disasters with more biodiversity, and the survivability among social and biological organisms within will continue to thrive. Natural forests are home to over 13 million distinct species. Over a billion people depend on tropical forests: communities use them for water, food, housing, and medicine [2]. Furthermore, forests help prevent billions of tonnes of carbon from being released into the atmosphere. Deforestation causes up to twenty percent of all human emissions of greenhouse gases, which is more than all of the world's transport [2]. It is an unsustainable act that is a leading contributor to global warming. The mass burning of trees leads to severe air pollution locally and thousands of miles away. At its current rate, tropical rain forests will not be viable ecosystems within one–hundred years. A method to preventing deforestation is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Protection Of Endangered Species Essay Out of all the species that have ever existed since the beginning of time, 98% of them are extinct (Facts). There are an estimated 5–10 million species that exist currently and only 1.5 million have been identified (Sherry, 2). Scientists classify species into six different groups: plants, animals, insects, algae, fungi, and microorganisms (Today's Situation). In the tropical rainforest alone, most species are disappearing at the rate of 1% a year (Sherry, 6). If the current trend continues, at least 50% of all currently existing species will be either extinct or endangered by the year 2050 (Today's Situation). For this reason endangered species deserve more protection than the current regulations provide. Throughout history there have...show more content... The next major step by the government to protect and increase threatened and endangered species population was the Endangered Species Act of 1973. It stated that "It is declared to be the policy of congress that all federal departments and agencies shall seek to conserve endangered species and threatened species and shall utilize their authorities in furthermore of the purpose of this act" (Sherry, 9). The quality of a species habitat is crucial because it cannot survive without it. No matter how successful breeding in captivity is, reintroducing species into the wild is useless if there is no wild to return them to (Habitat Preservation). To rehabilitate a natural environment it is a good idea to plant native vegetation and provide homes for associated animals in the environment (Habitat Preservation). Zoos are also helping to breed species in captivity with environments as close to the wild as possible. In certain circumstances these efforts are worthwhile and the plants or animals are returned to their native environments (Zoos and Reserves). These efforts have proven to preserve unique species that otherwise would have been lost forever. With all the work that goes into helping preserve species, there are also a lot of benefits that come out of it. The most obvious benefit of preserving species is for their uses in medical advancement. Out of all the flowering plants that exist in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Sustainable development that allows the present generation to meet our current needs, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. In other words, sustainable development is a inseparable system of economic, social, resource and protection of environmental which not only can attain the objective of economic development, but also it can protect the natural resources of atmospheric, freshwater, marine and environment. It can make the future generations live and work in peace and environmental protection. Sustainable development has the connection with environmental protection, but it cannot be equated with environmental protection. environmental protection is one of the important aspect of environmental protection. The core of sustainable development is development, but the premise of social and economic development is controlling of population strictly, improving the quality of people, protecting the environment and using the resources permanently. There are 5 main points of sustainable development nowadays: 1. the support of development, 2. the cleanness of water, 3. the green trade, 4. the exploitation of energy, 5. the protection of environment. Specifically, the support of development is that developed countries enlarge the economic assistance to the developing countries. The proportion of the assistance should reach 0.7% of GDP. 2. the cleanness of water means that economizing the water for half of the population who are short of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Environment: for Preservation or Exploitation Our natural environment is an integral part of our world today and is valued for varying reasons in society. The general public, academics, and environmentalists etc., all share different opinions on the function or use of our natural environment and provide interesting perspectives on the role of the environment. It is evident that society today deeply values the environment as numerous sectors encourage conservation of natural resources and preservation of natural sites; however, in order to fully understand the formulation of this environment–oriented ideology today, it is beneficial to examine its origins in American environmental history. John Muir, Gifford Pinchot, and Aldo Leopold are generally...show more content... As the article progresses, Pinchot determines two other qualities associated with conservation: prevention of waste, and conservation for a larger population. The aforementioned three pillars that carry the weight of Pinchot's idea of conservation extremely utilitarian in principle and governance. Unlike Muir, who continually reminds the reader of the importance of nature for aesthetic appeal and emotional well–being, Pinchot is wholly concerned with preserving natural resources in order to exploit them in the most economically beneficial and convenient manner. The entire article lacks regard for nature and Pinchot seems to believe that nature is there to be corrupted and savaged by mankind. Wilderness preservation, which should be conducted under the principle of preserving wildlife in order to see it develop and flourish as an independent life form, is instead completely undermined, and thought to serve humankind's unrestrained and unjustified needs. One of the most striking examples of the inherent perversity in Pinchot's article is revealed when he declares that "The first duty of the human race is to

  • 6. Importance Of Protecting The Environment Essay Our environment undoubtedly has many things we can use to benefit our everyday lives. Even if our environment is not in tip–top shape, we need to start taking care of it better. If we don't many things will happen. These things include plants dying, animals going extinct, air becoming polluted, coral reefs dying, and water rapidly coming contaminated. Another problem our environment has to face, overcome, or adapt too is Global Warming. Global Warming has and will continue to impact our environment worldwide if we do not begin taking immediate action and do something to protect our environment. Protecting our environment is indeed the first action that should be taken. Protecting the environment should take place locally and globally in my opinion. There are many things that our local environment could do that would have have a tremendous impact on our environment that genuinely would not take oodles of effort. A few of these could be as easy as recycling soda cans, old school or work papers, and glass bottles and taking them to a local recycling center. When you recycle you are reusing things or making them into new things. Two more examples would be hosting or participating in a highway clean up, or planting a community garden at a park. Globally, humans are responsible for Greenhouse Gasses, pollution, and fossil fuel shortages. Globally, if everyone pitched in just a little bit, greenhouse gas emissions could go down drastically. The way we could cut these emissions Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Conservation vs. Preservation Essay Conservation vs Preservation SCI/275 03/09/14 Peter Kennedy Dear Editor, I am writing to you today because of the Bridger Teton National Forest. I am reaching out to you and appealing to you as a conservationist. I believe that this large area of land can be very useful because of the resources it can provide. It can provide gas and oil so this way we don't have to be dependent on it from others around the world. We don't have to rely on foreign sources when it comes to this. There are many concerns if we do start this process in the Forest. What I can tell you is that before anything will be done they will have to go through a process. This means that they will need to evaluate and look at the risk...show more content... That by conserving the forest and using it that it will only help better our community and help grow the community. I appreciate you taking the time to read this. I hope that you will be able to help me out. Thank you so very much. Sincerely, Mia Fabro Mia Fabro Dear Editor, My name is Mia Fabro. I wanted to write to you regarding the Bridger Teton National Forest located in Wyoming. This is one of the largest forest around and it has really never been touched. I want to write to you and appeal to you as a preservationist. I believe that this forest has a lot of potential. I do not believe in using this land for any resources. The beauty it brings should not be damaged. It should be left as is. People can sight see and take pictures. This place is breathtaking. I know that many believe that the gas and oil it may provide can make a lot of changes in our lives and make our country better. But, the harm it may cause when the land is polluted and as well as the air we breathe is not as great as the view it gives us. Nature is beautiful and that is what I want to instill in people's mind. The main reason I want to reach out to you today is because I need your help. I want you to write something amazing about Bridger Teton National Forest. I want people to see and know that this place should Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Disadvantages Of Conservation The efforts of conservation can have many purposes and can bring help to area's that need help environmentally. They can also be organized by well paid government organizations or local groups funded by the community that they live in. Some examples of government groups are National Park Service, Natureserve, Bureau of land management, Ocean Conservancy, and Traffic along with many, many more. There might be a lot of government but there are many many more local groups that are documented, undocumented or even help but don't put a name with their cause.Even though both of these types of these conservation groups have the same goal and idea there is one big difference, and to be honest it's a pretty big one. This difference in funding. Funding is also how big government groups help local efforts. A example of this is Nature Conversely Donating money and lending help to local groups to protect of a 100 million acres of land around the world. Large scale things can also complement little efforts by just helping around. All over the United States little and large groups work together to to clean the environment help plant trees and don't cut them down and stuff and also clean roads( adopt a highway foundation or whatever it's called ). This is an example of government conservation groups helping locals because most likely without the help of government groups local efforts would probably not get off the floor and be able to anything. • 9. The preservation of the environment and conservation of energy are dynamic topics in the political world of today and actions to be taken are discussed every day. It is time to advance beyond the ordinary gasoline engine automobile that has polluted our environment for several decades. The recurring problem that hasn't been solved is the pollution from automobiles that harms the environment and uses fuel that won't be around some time in the future. Neglect for the preservation of the environment has spread like an infection over the years, and automobiles are major players in the pollution of the environment. A change is vital, and hybrid cars have begun to lead the way to that change, besting regular car in cost–effectiveness and...show more content... The environmental impacts from automobiles come in the dozens ranging from brake and tire debris to the toxicity of the lead acid batteries in cars. These problems are also not to be taken lightly. For example, the debris from tires and braking raises the toxicity levels of nearby soils and leads to the formation of black carbon. Both pollutants have been shown to cause lung toxicity and significant portions of particulate matter in urban areas. Painting and coating cause discharges of harmful materials such as nickel, copper, and hexavalent chromium into the atmosphere. Batteries are a more critical part of the automobile, and even though they can be recycled they account for the release of 42,000 tons of unwanted lead release into the environment. The plethora of environmental problems from automobiles today is affecting the lifespan of our atmosphere and causing a downward spiral that is exponentially increasing. With these problems, the transportation revolution is knocking on the door and as the guardians of our planet, humanity needs to find a way to decrease pollution and that way has been opened with the hybrid car. Hybrid cars are more beneficial to the environment than their traditional counterparts, but not all hybrid vehicles function the same way. To decrease emissions all hybrid cars run on some form of electricity, whether it run on pure electricity or splits power with Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. The University and Environmental Preservation The University and Environmental Preservation Caring for the environment has traditionally been thought of as a responsibility of environmental organizations such as Greenpeace or the Sierra Club. Universities have never been thought of as the leaders of environmental preservation–until now. Since universities are looked upon with high regard, many people including President Baker of Cal Poly, feel that it is the responsibility of the university to set an example of how the environment is respected and conserved. In his Earth Day speech in 2004, President Baker claims that Cal Poly finds it suitable to be a signatory of the Talloires Declaration. This is a 10–point plan signed by over 300 universities worldwide setting out ...show more content... Specifically, he mentions the web page and examples of actions taken by the Facilities Planning Department. This organization has implemented activities and ideals that are supported by principles of environmental sustainability. Also, in compliance with the Talloires Declaration, Cal Poly teaches environmentally responsible citizenship through educational programs. For example, several colleges offer degree programs and minors that provide emphasis on principles of sustainability. One last piece of evidence is when President Baker mentions the specific learning centers and institutions that provide environmental education. Baker introduces his evidence of the university's compliance by referring to Cal Poly's Master Plan that sets out the university's mission. According to him, many elements are included in this mission to create "a comprehensive vision of sustainability," one of these elements being environmental protection. Although this is a valid reason, President Baker also states other reasons that are not pertinent to the environment. He speaks of a personally safe university and one that is more culturally diverse. Throughout the speech, President Baker displays a sense of urgency and passion about environmental preservation. • 11. Economic Conservation vs. Environmental Conservation Around the world people are being affected by conservation and endangered species laws and regulations. Some want the biggest house on the most beautiful land and have the money to get it, while others feel that we have developed enough and there has to be more land left to nature. I feel that while endangered species should be protected, their protection should not change the way that local people function, and interact with one another. This has prompted a battle of economic growth versus environmental conservation that can be found both locally such as in Duxbury, Massachusetts, and world wide such as the southern mountainous region of Vietnam. Duxbury is a small town...show more content... However, for the past few seasons the beach seems to have become less accessible because of the increase in Piping Plover, an endangered species of shorebirds, which have been migrating to Duxbury beach. I have been to the beach when a line of cars are being denied access because the birds have moved, or the Harbormasters can not find one. According to Debora Katz in a recent series of articles she wrote for The Duxbury Clipper, there are only about 2500 piping plover pairs left, and they are only found in North America. The adult plover weighs only about 1.5 to 2 ounces and is about seven inches long ("Plight of the Plover,"2003) The birds do not adapt well to coastal development, and when they are not watched out for by organizations such as the Audubon Society, there population begins to plummet ("Pitfalls," 2003). Senior shorebird scientist at the Manomet Center for Conservation Sciences, Brian Harrington, conducted a study in 2002 looking for a connection between human activity on the beach and the how the needs of the shorebirds were or were not met. Harrington concluded that in areas of on–sand vehicle access the bird flocks are disturbed more often than in areas banned to cars, and when the flocks are disturbed more often, they are using up more of the energy that they are trying to gain and save for their long flight to the south in August ("Pitfalls," 2003). • 12. Value of Biodiversity and the Preservation of Species As a result of the increasing environmental awareness of scientists and laymen, new issues have evolved around pressing ecological problems. Ecologists have discovered how important retaining biodiversity really is to humanity. While politicians often have other economic agendas, environmentalists are working hard to push this relatively new knowledge through political institutions using economic arguments. The preservation of our surroundings can create new jobs and promote economic efficiency, more so than the jobs which are currently destroying our ecosystem. For example, in a few years, workers in the fishing industry may be out of jobs due to over–consumption of certain...show more content... Biodiversity also refers to genetic diversity where the structure from one sexually reproducing individual to the next varies in its code, having vast differences within its own species. An estimated 17,500 species are lost every year and the major destruction is caused by human activity (DiSilvestro, 1993)! Why should biodiversity be preserved? One answer is for the physical, spiritual, and emotional well–being of people themselves (DiSilvestro, 1993). These aspects of our lives can be enhanced by nature, and in protecting nature, we are also saving biodiversity. This perspective has brought us zoos, national parks and wildlife refuges, as well as other recreational areas such as dunes, offering us a diversity of opportunities to experience. By protecting biodiversity we are saving innate pleasures of emotions, intellectual stimulation, and spiritual gratification. In our urban society of today, we often act as spectators, rather than participants in our own lives, i.e. attending movies, ballet, theatre, concerts, or sporting events (DiSilvestro, 1993). However, we can be active participants in nature simply by being immersed in it, when there exist opportunities to do so. One argument against biodiversity is that the diminishing of species is something that has naturally occurred throughout history and will continue to do so. The criticism of this argument lies Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Environmental Preservation Of Bees What comes to mind when you think of bees? Personally, I think of honey and bee stings. Fortunately, bees provide us with a lot more than just honey. Believe it or not, they play a significant role in the sustenance of our ecosystem, and contribute to a third of everything that we eat. Bees are among many important pollinators, that help to increase the quality and yields of crops produced for human consumption, such as; nuts, fruits, vegetables and many other plants. Sadly, due to urbanization and modern farming practices, bee habitats are increasingly declining. Summary of Article Luckily for wild bees and our ecosystem, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts have partnered with Pollinator Partnership, a non–profit organization dedicated to protecting pollinators such as bees, to develop and create bee hotels. In addition to loss of habitat, bees are also subjected to harmful pesticides, air pollution, and global warming. Thanks to Fairmont's sustainability program and subsequent initiatives, wild bees now have sanctuaries at 10 hotels in North America, including the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. In addition to Fairmont, farmers can also make a positive contribution to our ecosystem and help reverse the world bee decline, by using ecological farming Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Plant preservation is a constant struggle for botanists attempting to help plants that are on the verge of extinction. According to John Vidal from the Huffington Post, "Scientists estimate that 150–200 species of plant, insect, bird and mammal become extinct every 24 hours". While some plants are, evolutionarily speaking, not savable many others can still be protected. With the astounding number of plants that are already dying off it is no wonder something must be done to help protect plants. In the past the only way to monitor some plants would be to either venture far distances even deep within jungles or stay close to the area under protection. While this method does allow for the plants to be closely monitored there has been a new technology that could make this process much simpler. Global Positioning System or GPS combined with GIS or Geographic Information System is a way that, from anywhere, botanists could check on the entire population of plants around the world. With the press of a button the area of the Congo or even Manila could be watch over from anywhere in the world. The preservation of plants in today's society is more important than ever and with the correct technological tools we can better protect many integral plants. While many will not see the effects day to day from the extinction of some plants there are many plants that if lost could be detrimental to entire world. From medicinal plants to plants used as a food resource the loss of a single one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Environmental health is the science that studies how the environment influences the human disease and health. Environment means things that are natural to us in the environment, for instance air, water, and soil. However, it also covers the physical, chemical, biological, and social features that surround us every day. The physical environment is the man–made or built structures that include our living, work, and even schools. Included in the community systems such as the roads and our transportations, and waste management. However, the alterations such as air pollution to our natural environment, is included in the physical section. The social environment is our social lifestyles like diet, exercise, socioeconomic status and many...show more content... The pollution has both chronic and acute effects on our health, and affects many of our systems and organs. The health consequences of lower levels of pollution have been more difficult to decide. The first cause is that people differ in response to the environment and the toxics. When we are exposed to the different conditions caused by the environment, the variation is wide because of how we react. With this variability of the population, it can mask the effects that do occur in a sensitive segment of the population. The second difficulty is our age, and the timing of the exposures and how it will influence both sensitivity to the environmental agent, and the type of effect it will cause our health. Infants and children may acquire lifelong damage compared to us adults. Environmental regulation and pollution control will remain an important cornerstone of the public health policy. The focus will be prevention, instead of disease treatment. Control of the pollution is a highly cost–effective means ensuring public health. With the contaminated environments and the work hazards in occupations, improving the pollution control may lead to a reduced health care disparities. When the health of all citizens is protected that a nation can fulfill its potential. Another reason we could consider is the climate change. The climate poses a challenge to our health. Threats to our health caused by a toxin or disease pathogen, there are ways the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Environmental Club Application Essay Since I was in second grade, I have had a passion for preserving the environment. I am always looking for more ways that I can share my excitement with my community. So, when I entered high school, I joined the Environmental Club to work with other students who are passionate about environmental preservation. When I joined, it was a group of five students who would collect and sort the school's recyclables. With over 2,500 students and faculty members, this is like recycling for a small community, and while recycling is extremely important, I wanted to make an even larger impact on my community. Since my involvement in 2013, I have worked to expand Environmental Club to be more involved. It has started volunteering at the local nature center to educate younger children on important environmental issues and began hosting environmental concerts. It also started a "No–Idling" campaign, calling for community awareness of air pollution. Environmental Club has now expanded to 25 active members, and it has collectively volunteered over 3,500 hours in ...show more content... My main ambition as the president has been to help people feel included in my community. One way I have done this is through introducing the incoming freshman class to the wide variety of clubs and organizations my school offers. I organized a club fair and coordinated with over 80 club leaders to host the "Tiger Welcome" so the Class of 2021 and the future classes will be more involved in the community and find friends with their similar interests. Another way I have worked to unite the community has been through hosting a Veterans Day Breakfast, where I invited all veterans in the community to eat at my school and thank them for their service. While this certainly is not enough to thank the veterans for all their work, they were grateful that they spent a morning with students who truly care about the service they did for our Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Abstract: There is no dearth of legislations on environmental safety in India but their enforcement has been too distant from satisfactory. There is must use for the effective and efficient enforcement of the Constitutional mandate and another environmental legislations. The creative role of judiciary has been significant and commendable. harmonious to the Constitutional provisions contained in Articles 48A and 51A(h), many Public Interest Litigations have been instituted in the Supreme Court of India against many industries for failing to arrange significant pollution control and also against Pollution Control Boards to direct them to take appropriate measures to ensure pollution control. For the aim of efficient and effective enforcement of these lays, it is compulsary to set up an Adjucatory Body which should consist of legal as well as technical advisers. Caring for controlling and protecting the environment is essentially a wish to see that national development should commenced along the rational sustainable laws. Intoduction: The conservation, protection and improvement of human environment are major issues in the world. Human environment consists of both physical and biological environment. Physical environment wraps land, water and air. Biological environment covers plants, animals and other organisms. Both physical environment and biological environment are internally dependent. Conservation vs. Preservation Conservation Versus Preservation Letter to the Editor NAME SCI/275 Environmental Science February 10, 2013 Instructor Name Letter to the Editor Dear Editor, I am writing to you in regard to the Bridger –Teton National Forest. It is "the largest intact ecosystem in the lower 48 United States. Offering nearly 1.2 million acres of designated Wilderness, over 3,000 miles of road and trail and thousands of miles of unspoiled rivers and streams." (USDA Forest Service) I am appealing to you as a conservationist. I believe that the natural resources of the forest can be of great help to us. As we experience this oil and gas crisis in the US, we are forced to import oil from foreign countries. Thus causing the cost of...show more content... It will provide help for all of us as well as maintain its wildlife and scenic vistas. Letter to the Editor Dear Editor, I am writing to you in regard to the Bridger –Teton National Forest. I write to you as someone who believes in preservation. I believe that the forest should be preserved and not conserved. The Bridger –Teton National Forest is a landmark and should be kept that way. "It is a place where locals find solitude in huge tracts of forest backcountry when nearby wilderness areas and national parks are crowded with out–of–state visitors. It's also a place that supports traditional, sustainable activities such as outfitting, guiding, ranching, and recreation" ("Wyoming Outdoor Council" 2009–2013). All

While oil and gas may be useful to us, I do not think that the forest should suffer the consequences. The natural resources should be left alone for everyone to enjoy in its natural state. • 20. Conservation of energy and a preservation of the environment are popular and active topics in today's political world. "According to Frost and Sullivan Transportation, fuel economy has risen to among the top three important factors for current vehicle purchase" (Brooke). Seeing a skyrocket in gasoline prices and an increase in vehicular pollution shows the need for change in how vehicles are designed. It is undeniably time to evolve beyond the status quo of the current gasoline driven automobiles that continue to contaminate the atmosphere. The overlaying issue is that these machines consistently pollute the world while running on a natural resource that won't last the human race for long. Neglect for the automobile–induced pollution has spread like wildfire, and has been proven to be a key player in the cause of pollution. Change is needed, and the rise of hybrid vehicles leads the way to that change, boasting cost–effectiveness and hardware that is designed to protect the environment whereas the petrol only based vehicle would pollute and destroy it. In the automotive industry, there are drastic improvements and innovations in vehicular technology. These advancements are bred by research about our world and society, helping us understand how to revolutionize technology so that they can work as efficiently as possible. With the increase in knowledge, society has become more aware of the carbon footprint that they leave on the environment. In an effort to improve the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 21. Pollution and Environment Essay Preserving Our Environment Many people assume that the environment is in no danger. They believe that with advancing technology, we don't need to worry about renewing natural resources, recycling, and finding new ways to produce energy. They argue that one person in the world does not make a large difference. In actuality, each individual's contribution greatly affects our environment. Our natural resources are running low, and we must work together to save them and the Earth from ruin. Recycling is so important in the effort to preserve our environment for future generations. We are running out of places to put landfills. My neighbor, Nick, believes that the U.S. has enough land for our own waste, and we...show more content... Not only does this use up 85% of their waste, leaving behind only ash, but it also preserves the fossil fuels that they would have otherwise had to use for energy to produce heat. They have been forced to come up with ideas like this because they do not have enough space for landfills, and as a result, they have greatly contributed to helping the environment. An additional alternative source of energy comes from the sun. Already there is talk about solar powered cars, and many people currently have solar panels installed in their homes. This eliminates the need to use large amounts of fossil fuels for heat and power. Recycling also saves natural resources such as trees that are cut down and not replaced at a quick enough rate. According to Greenpeace, in the past thirty years, fifteen percent of the Amazon rain forest has been destroyed by logging. Not only are the trees gone, but lost forever are the thousand of species of plants and animals that call the Amazon home. It is also infringing on the livelihood of Native Indian tribes that live deep in the forest. Recycling the paper we already have would cut down dramatically on our need to produce more, and saving these precious natural areas would then be possible. Nick also argues that recycling takes too much time and is an inconvenience. The simple answer to this is a call for better methods of recycling. • 22. The Future of Our Precious Environment Essay The Future of our Precious Environment The most effective way of sustaining the environment has been an enduring, controversial argument. Some believe that the only way of saving the environment is by considering it sacred and leaving it untouched, which relates to John Muir's idea of preservation. Others understand that it is impossible to draw a line between civilization and the environment, but there can be a balance between the two. This is what Gifford Pinchot argued through his idea of conservation, which he defines as "the wise management of natural resources" (Hott & Garey). In contemporary United States, the dispute between the two approaches is seen by the way environment issues are being acknowledged; such as climate change,...show more content... As John Mellor claims in The Intertwining of Environmental Problems and Poverty, "In developing countries, environmental problems and poverty are inseparable" (488). Not only does the environment assist in the advancement of civilization, but it is a necessity for underdeveloped countries and if used responsibly, can allow for their improvement as well. Gifford Pinchot understood that there is no line between civilization and the wilderness, but natural resources should be utilized responsibly. In The Fight for Conservation, Gifford Pinchot wrote, "The central thing for which conservation stands is to make this country the best possible place to live in, both for us and for our descendants" (79). His notion of conservation, which is a balance between society and the environment, is an efficacious way of allowing for the advancement of humanity and satisfying the needs of underdeveloped countries. Gifford Pinchot also knew if natural resources were made public, people would feel more responsible in maintaining their environment. Like Gifford Pinchot, Edward O. Wilson knew the efficiency of conservation because there is no line between "natural capital" and civilization, but there can be ethics, because, as he justifies in The Solution, "everyone has some kind of environmental ethic" (510). The policy that will succeed in contemporary United States is for people to use "environmental ethic" or "moral reasoning," because Get more content on HelpWriting.net
