This document discusses the effects of dance/movement therapy and ballroom dancing as therapeutic interventions for physical and mental illnesses. 2. • This aims to evaluate the effects of dance(movement) therapy and ballroom
dances as therapeutic interventions for adults with physical and mental
illness.
• These dance/movement therapy had a positive impact for patients with
breast cancer, improving quality of life, shoulder range of motion and body
image.
• Ballroom dances seem benficial for pateints with parkinson's disease,
diabetes and heart failure.
• Ballroom dances such as Tango improved balance and coordination in
pateints with parkinson's and cardiopulmonary training in pateints with heart
failure.

coordination, mobility, and decreased muscular tension.

for expression of feelings.

4. Regions of the brain involve in DANCE therapy

5. • Studies using PET imaging have identified regions of the brain that
contribute to dance learning and performance.
• These regions include the motor cortex, somatosensory cortex,
basal ganglia, and cerebellum.
• Motor cortex, is involoved in planing, control, and execution of
voluntary movement.
• Somatosensory cortex, located in the mid region of the brain, is
responsible for motor control and also in eyehand coordination.
• Basal ganglia, for smoothly coordinate movement.
• Cerebellum, integrates input from the brain and spinal cord and helps
in the planning of fine and complex motor actions.

• Dance/movement psychotherapy in the USA is psychotherapeutics use of
movement and dance to support intellectual, emotional, and motor function
of the body.
• Atypical DMT session has four main stages:
1. Preparation
2. Incubation
3. illumination
4. evaluation

7. Proposed mechanism
• Various hypothesis have been proposed for mechanism by which
dance therapy may benefit participants.
• Dance therapy can also involve nonverbal communication,
“which enables participants to express their feelings without
words. so, this might be helpful when normal communication is
abscent or has broken down.
ex- patients with dementia.

8. Principle of DMT -
• The theory of DMT is based mainly upon the belief that body and mind interact.
• Through the unity of the body, mind and spirit, DMT provides a sense of
wholeness to all individuals.
• The body refers to the “discharging of energy through muscular-skeletal
responses to stimuli received by brain”.
• The mind refers to “mental activities ....such as- memory, imagery, perception,
attention, evaluation, reasoning and decision making”.

Reduces Alzhimer's disease
• These therapy help to improve Alzheimer's disease. because these
therapy mainely effect on memory enhancement.
• What you hear, see, and do during dance helps enhance the memory and
offers brain stimulation that is clinically proven to help Alzheimer's
progression.

• DMT therapy may have a beneficial effect on the quality of life,
somatization (i.e. distress arising from perceptions of bodily
dysfunction) and vigor of women with breast cancer.
DMT Effective tratment for depression
Effective for treatment of parkinson's disease.
• In parkinson's DMT benefit in gait function, balance, and other
symptoms.
