Be Quiet! I'm Listening!  Incorporating Recorded Books into K-12 Literacy Strategies Inaugural Webcast – Sept. 23, 2008, 2:00 PM ET Sponsored by Recorded Books
Panelists: Shonda Brisco , Assistant Professor / Curriculum Materials Librarian, Mary L. Williams Curriculum Materials Library, Oklahoma State University, OK. Shonda will discuss how schools and classroom teachers can integrate recorded books, and offer tips for adding an audio book component to the classroom curriculum Hillary Wolfe , Intervention Coordinator, Camino Nuevo Academy, Los Angeles, CA. Hillary will share her experience with setting up a Listening Center. The Listening Center provides intervention services to the school’s Literacy Academy by pairing struggling readers with audio versions of required texts to help them get ahead. Hillary will also discuss why recorded books are not just for in-school use or English and Language Arts classes. Mary Burkey , Teacher-Librarian, Olentangy Liberty Middle School, Powell, OH. Mary will share her viewpoints on approaching young learners through multiple literacy efforts—print, audio and electronic—and the benefits these can bring to students with different skills and abilities. Shonda will discuss how schools and classroom teachers can integrate recorded books, and offer tips for adding an audio book component to the classroom curriculum Hillary Wolfe , Intervention Coordinator, Camino Nuevo Academy, Los Angeles, CA. Hillary will share her experience with setting up a Listening Center. The Listening Center provides intervention services to the school’s Literacy Academy by pairing struggling readers with audio versions of required texts to help them get ahead. Hillary will also discuss why recorded books are not just for in-school use or English and Language Arts classes. Mary Burkey , Teacher-Librarian, Olentangy Liberty Middle School, Powell, OH. Mary will share her viewpoints on approaching young learners through multiple literacy efforts—print, audio and electronic—and the benefits these can bring to students with different skills and abilities.
