Are you building the next Facebook or Google? Startup World is a global competition to find the next Jobs or Zuckerberg. The competition will be held in 36 cities world-wide, with the regional winners flying to Silicon Valley for a grand showdown to battle it out in front of a panel of expert judges to be crowned the world's best startup.
Much like competing on American Idol, selling a business idea requires raw talent, mastery of the material, and command performance. So this year we've launched Startup World — our global answer to the hit singing competition.
Whilst there's certainly advantages to building startups in Silicon Valley due to the sheer amount of entrepreneurs, venture capital and access to talent, startups and entrepreneurship is a global story.
Why are we doing this?
Silicon Valley is the highest producer of technology companies in the world, but as the cost of innovation comes down entrepreneurs all over the planet have the tools they need to get startups off the ground and reaching a global consumer base online. While most media is currently focusing on Silicon Valley, we want to shine a light on entrepreneurs in emerging markets.

2. Overview
Startup World is an initiative to promote startups, entrepreneurship and
technology through a global competition to find the world’s most innovative
startups.
We have identified 36 tech hub cities around the world and will hold regional
pitching competitions, with ten entrepreneurs pitching to a panel of expert
judges in each city. The winners of the regional pitch competitions will travel
to Silicon Valley for a grand showdown at the end of 2012.

3. Startup World Documentary
In a partnership with The Next Web, Startup World will be documenting the
startups they meet and highlighting the different tech-hubs across the
world.
In each city, the team will interview the local Startup World winner as well as
the big players in that city. The goal is to showcase the different problems
entrepreneurs are solving in emerging markets and the challenges they face
in building their companies. Startup World will also be touring offices of
global startups and co-working spaces.
Each video for the 36 cities will last 2-3 minutes and will be published on
The Next Web shortly after leaving each city. This content will also be
shared to our partners and their media networks.
