Evaluation Q3
What have you learned from your audience
feedback?
What have you learned from your audience
feedback?
Henry McPherson & Lewis Harland
Foster The People - Don’t Stop
(The FatRat Remix)
The Group
• Working in a group of two was very beneficial as the tasks
could be evenly distributed and different skills could be used
in different scenarios from each member.
• During the panning stage we were able to get a range of
ideas from myself and my partner and our different
perspectives helped shape an original concept.
• Our target audience for our music video was a reasonably
young audience ranging from 16-25 year olds interested in
the pop/dance music culture. We aimed to keep the genre
interest relatively equal as we wanted our video to appeal to
as many people as possible.
Narrative• We felt that the we wanted to
illustrate the visuals using the lyrics
with the name of the song ‘Don’t Stop’
being the theme throughout the music
video.
• We added stop motion to help set the
quick passed mood of our video which
helped match each frame with the
beat of the song
• After showing the stop motion
segment to our piers we got very
positive reviews and therefor turned it
into a reoccurring segment in our
QuickTime™ and a
GIF decompressor
are needed to see this picture.
Colour Correction• After showing some of our clips for review the feedback we got was
that the backgrounds could be more vibrant and colourful. We shot a
few of our scenes on a dark day and you could tell in some of the
footage.
• To improve on this we decided to use colour correction and use
warmer colours upping the mood of each scene and matching the genre
better by altering RGB curves. We then showed the same scenes but
colour corrected and got much more positive feedback.
• Original (left) Colour Corrected (right)
Location• Feedback showed us that our filming locations weren’t
diverse enough and needed more variety we took this on
board and brainstormed what would compliment our
dancer.
• We thought it would be a good idea to make our next
shoot in London as it gave us a much more ascetically
pleasing locations and a diverse range of backdrops as seen
below.
Choreography
• At the beginning of the project neither my partner or I had
any experience with choreography so it was a new challenge
to overcome considering our music video was a dance
video.
• After doing research and performing in front of others for
feedback the main criticism was rigidness of the character
which we then took on board and improved to make the
dancing more fluid and natural.
Album Cover• Although for our first draft of our digipak we received relatively positive
feedback we wanted to improve in some way, we looked very critically at our
work and found some way we could improve. First of all we decided to change
the colour of or background from a mix of blue and orange to a more subtle
cream pastel colour. Positioning of the text was also difficult as we really wanted
to push a minimalist, simplistic feel and didn’t want the text to clutter the front
cover.
• In the inside cover the skyscraper landscape was recommended as feedback in
the planning stage. When we added it to the digipak we decided to keep it’s as it
was received very positively.
• We really wanted to strengthen the link between the album cover and the main
dancer/character so we found that the 4 man profiles showed off the variety of
strange and interesting outfits and costumes. The continuity with facing forward
on the front and facing backwards on the back cover looked original and was
also received well
Finished Digipak
Choosing Our Font
• We felt that the font we used throughout our 3 products
was vital to tie the 3 together and convey our chosen theme
correctly.
• We started off with a large range of similar fonts with only a
few differences between them, they were all sans-serif fonts
as our audience research suggested that a more simplistic
font would fit best.
• After looking at the shortlist critically with a target audience
group providing constant feedback the final font choice was
made.
Shortlist Of Fonts
Our final choice
Magazine Advert
• When designing our magazine
advert our review process was very
back-and-fourth with us creating a
draft (our first draft seen right)
showing our focus group, getting
feedback and then going back to
make amendments.
• We made a total of 4 rough drafts
before making the final design. Our
target audience really liked the idea
of our advert being represented in
the theme of a comic book as it
compliments the video and is an
original idea.
Finial Draft and Finished
Magazine Advert
Conclusion
• With the help of audience feedback we were able to refine
and improve weaker areas of all 3 of our products. It has
made the final product significantly better and was a very
beneficial process. I have received feedback from friends,
family, social media sites and classmates. Using social media
was a vastly beneficial way to receive feedback as the reach
in terms of viewers thanks to sites such as Facebook was
invaluable to our feedback.
• Audience feedback definitely altered all of our final products
for the better and was a helpful tool throughout.
