O Each of these modules has opportunities for
writing for coursework and to develop exam
skills in analysing and responding to non
fiction texts. There are also several
opportunities for the Speaking & Listening
assessments.
O All of the skills you develop during this course
also prepare you for IB English.
5. IGCSE World Literature Overview
An outline of this course is in your Welcome to Yr 10 booklet
O Coursework – 50%
O 2 x written – Empathic piece of writing based on
Mister Pip and Analytical writing based on poems
from the SIS Poetry Anthology 25 marks each.
O 1 x oral – Recorded Conversation – based on Balzac
and The Little Chinese Seamstress. 15 marks.
O Exam – 50%
O Paper 1 - Unseen commentary on either poetry or
prose. 25% (1hr 15 mins)
O Paper 2 – A general essay and extract based
response on one or both of the set texts studied.
25% (1hr 30 mins). Closed book.
6. O All written coursework must be submitted to
turnitin.com. This is used to ensure that all the
work submitted for your coursework portfolio is
entirely your own work to avoid any plagarism. It
also serves as a backup for your coursework
pieces.
O Login: englishigcse@mail.sis.edu.hk – you
need to create an acc as a student if you have not
used turnitin before. Follow the instructions to do
this on turnitin

O Once you have done this please save the login
and class id carefully so that you are able to
submit all coursework in Yr 10 & 11.
7. Filing your work
O It is crucial that you organise and file your
work carefully so that you can locate work
when you need it.
O Back up all your work regularly – you don’t
want to lose all your notes and
coursework copies near to the exam!
