2. BRIN: fuse of 5 national research agencies
Ristek + LIPI + LAPAN + BATAN + BPPT
On 5 May 2021, Joko Widodo signed Presidential Decree No. 33/2021,
effectively establishing BRIN as sole national research agency  the biggest
national agencies merger in decades.
On 1 Sept 2021, 5 agencies merged to BRIN.

○ Indonesian Institute of Sciences (Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia, LIPI)
○ Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (Indonesian: Badan

○ National Nuclear Energy Agency of Indonesia (Badan Tenaga Nuklir Nasional, BATAN)
○ National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (Lembaga Penerbangan dan Antariksa
Nasional, LAPAN) fused into BRIN

BRIN is the ultimate solution for low critical mass, creating the collaboration hub + enabler for multi local and
global stakeholders, in particular local industries to enter R&D based product developments.

4. Five Pillars of Open Science (UNESCO’s draft 13 May 2021)
Open Science is defined as an inclusive construct that combines various movements and practices aiming to
make multilingual scientific knowledge openly available, accessible and reusable for everyone, to increase
scientific collaborations and sharing of information for the benefits of science and society, and to open the
processes of scientific knowledge creation, evaluation and communication to societal actors beyond the
traditional scientific community.

5. LIPI/BRIN and Open Science, not only Open Access
● Do not stop only at open access, but a wider openness, which is open science
● Making LIPI/BRIN as hub of research collaboration by opening the infrastructure (human
resource, institutional networks and software-hardware) to public
● Support the final draft of UNESCO’s Recommendation of Open Science (May 2021)

Museum: Rock Museum. Karangsambung is an earth artifact. Namely as part of the
historical fragment of the collision of the Australian Indian Ocean plate with the Eurasian
continental plate until the appointment of this area to land.

16. Melange/Karangsambung Rocks/Geology Museum & National Geopark
Geopark Karangsambung-Karangbolong covers an area of ​​543,599 Km2 and
has a morphology that varies from hills, valleys, plains to beaches.
The morphology formed is the result of geological processes from the limestone
to the quarter and spreads from the north to the south of the geopark area.
