2. Happiness Is A Decision Most of us place the fate of our happiness in the hands of others and surrounding circumstances. If the weather weren't so dreary today, I'd be happier. If my boss weren't such a pain, I'd be happy. Once my financial situation improves, I promise to be happy.
3. But you don't have to wait for things to change before you can be happy. Happiness is more in our own hands than we realize. Happiness is as much a decision as it is an emotion. You can decide to be happy! It's in your hands!
4. Some people have all the luck. They seem to have everything going well in their lives. Of course they're happy. Some others, they're just jinxed. They have a right to be unhappy and bitter about life.
5. Is that really the case? Well, it's a fact that some people are luckier than others. But, the truth is, good things and bad things happen to every single person - they happen to happy people, they happen to unhappy people.
6. The main difference is, happy people choose to focus on the good things in life and, unhappy people, the bad things. When you choose to look on the bright side of life, you will find yourself a much happier person.
7. Have Fun In our busy daily lives, most of us have forgotten one of the bare essentials of a happy life - having fun! Be silly. Crack jokes. Laugh. Be mischievous. Let your hair down. Leave your troubles behind. Play hard. Just play. Enjoy yourself. We are always so busy walking and running in our lives, we forget. We forget to stop and dance!
8. Have Self Belief Look at people who are very happy with life, or who have achieved certain things in life. One common feeling almost all of them share is self-belief. If you believe that you are something, you may be right. If you believe you are not something, however, you are definitely right. When you think you can, you may be right. When you think you can't, you're right!
9. Humor And Laughter Are Important Humor in our daily lives is an essential ingredient of happiness. So, learn to look on the funny side of things. Even serious situations. Have you had a good laugh today? If you haven't, then please do - don't let the day go to waste! Laughter melts the distances between people.
10. Imperfection Is A Reality If you're waiting for everything in life to be perfect before you allow yourself to be happy, then there's bad news for you - it'll never happen. Your life will never be perfect. Some things can always be improved upon. The good news is, you can choose to accept this fact, and allow yourself to be happy anyway.
11. It's extremely important to accept that imperfection exists. Imperfection in people, in things, in relationships. Your parents aren't perfect. Your marriage isn't perfect. Your job isn't perfect. Your health isn't perfect. The world is not perfect. But perfection is not, and never will be, a prerequisite for happiness. So you can be happy anyway. But first, it is necessary to accept the reality that imperfection is inevitable.
12. Keep The Good, Dump The Bad Find the good things in your mind and keep what's worth keeping. Remember what's worth remembering.' Dwell on what's worth dwelling on. Banish the unhappy thoughts and feelings. Keep what makes you happy!
13. Keep Your Promises When we break a promise, we lose credibility. Not just in the eyes of others, but in our own as well. When we break promises, people lose faith in us. It doesn't feel good when we feel we're not trusted or trustworthy. Worse still, when it's the promises to our loved ones that we fail to fulfill. When our loved ones feel bad, we feel bad. And we feel worse because we are the cause of it. Mean what you say. If you make a promise, keep it. Your emotional health will benefit if you do so.
14. Know The Real Meaning Of Success When someone mentions "success", what do you think of? Most of us know what are important to us. But we don't necessarily live that way. Looking at the world, especially today, it is easy to see why we get distracted, confused and misled. Real success is about personal well-being and relationships - it's not about material well-being.
15. Everything in life is relative. If you compare your life to the perfect life, you will never be satisfied, and never be happy On the other hand, comparing your current situation to the roughest times of your life, or the lives of people who are going through hell, will make you realize how fortunate you are, and how happy you should be. Realize that happiness is relative. There is really a lot to be happy for.
16. Know What Makes You Happy It's funny how, some of us, maybe most of us, actually do know what makes us happy. However, not only do we not actively pursue it, we end up repeatedly doing things that would make us unhappy Happiness is well within all our grasps. We need to know what we want and then have a strategy to go get them. It is important to know what makes you tick. What gets you up and what pushes you down. Gravitate towards what makes you happy, and shy away from what makes you unhappy. Go towards happy, and be happy.
17. Learn From Happy People Naturally, when it comes to the subject of happiness, it's the same. Happy people have the most happiness. Most happy people are not happy because everything is going right in their lives. They are happy people because of their outlook, their mentality. Talk to happy people. Learn from them. They will have plenty to teach you about happiness, about being happy.
18. Learn To Forgive When someone wrongs us, the instinct is to take revenge. An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth. Forgiveness is an amazing thing. When you bestow it, not only does the party receiving it experience an uplifting joy and relief, you, too, will feel very good. Not in an arrogant, proud manner, but in a very profound, unexplainable way. Practice forgiveness. You are helping not just others, but yourself as well.
19. Let Go Of - Physical Things A great source of unhappiness in life is the failure to let go, the subconscious desire to hold on tightly. We have to learn to let go of things. They are just that - things. Don't grow too attached to physical objects. When we become too attached to physical objects, we lose track of the truly important areas of our lives. Our family. Don't let physical things dominate your life. You can't take them with you all the time.
20. Let Go We have to learn to let go of events. What has passed is past. Learn from it. Grow from the experience. But move on. Look ahead. The rest of your life starts today.
21. Let Love, Not Fear, Govern You It is always difficult to give of ourselves fully because, by doing so, we place ourselves in a vulnerable position, vulnerable to hurt and pain. Often, we hold back because of this fear. So, don't think you are insignificant. You are important. You are significant. You do make a difference. You are here for a reason.
