2. Exposition
• In the documentary there were several conventions that
were inputted that built up the whole project to be shown
to the audience. It started with an exposition to
demonstrate what the subject was about and what events
we were going to witness. This was really vibrant as it
creates the audiences first impression and automatically
engages them with the figures in the documentary.
3. Archival footage
• At the beginning of the documentary we are shown some
real life images from live scenarios of specific incidents
that occurred at the time. This is a useful technique used
because it almost urges the audience to engage and want
to find out more of what happened.
4. Interviews
• Throughout the documentary we are introduced to some
witnesses, families and friends of both victims. The use of
interviews in documentary's are helpful and also informing for
the audience. This makes the viewers feel more close with the
interviewees and have an understanding of what information is
being given out. Also what makes interviews useful is the fact
that we are revealed to more than one side of the story so this
automatically makes the audience feel engaged and interested.
5. Voice over
• Voiceovers act like a narrator in a story. They inform us
on what's going on, where things are taking place and
why. In the Biggie & Tupac documentary we receive a
voice over through out. However when there interviews
taking place they allow the audience to hear what is being
said, making the viewers feel more appealed to. This
allows us to acknowledge the conspiracy and learn about
the controversy in the documentary.
6. Text and Titles
• In the beginning of the second video we are demonstrated
an inter title, this included some facts and information on
the death of both rappers, explaining where it took place,
what time and date. This is positive information given to
the audience because it’s relevant and it encourages the
viewers to want to watch further.
7. Reconstructions
• Reconstructions are often used in documentaries when
the producers want to emphasis a specific thing or
incident, making it seem as realistic as possible. It’s often
acted out by professional workers. Reconstructions are
valuable especially to the audience because it brings more
interest and excitement for them. In addition it allows
viewers to identify and understand the concept of the
story better.
