2. Aim
• To introduce the student to different way to search
and discover information.
• To explore a range of approaches to best utilise
information gathering.
• To further existing knowledge of different medias
and search techniques.

3. Learning Objectives
After the micro teach the student will be able to :
• To apply a range of different methods to acquire
knowledge.
• To list a range of subject specific search methods.
• To consider different, more defined search techniques.
• To identify the definition of such terms as “Smart Phone”
and how to utilize there features,

4. Is your phone ...smart ?
(Oxford Dictionaries)
Defines a smart phone a mobile phone that is able to perform
many of the functions of a computer, typically having a
relatively large screen and an operating system capable of
running general-purpose applications.

What features define a smart phone :
• Open OS (Typical
iOS, Android, Blackberry, Windows)
• Advanced computing ability and connectivity.
• Physical or virtual keyboard.
• Large screen
• “Always on internet access”

5. Are you texting or learning ?
Todd Hoffman (education.com ,2012) discusses the idea
that smart phones can aid learning :
“One look at Apple’s iTunes App Store confirms this
trend. Not surprisingly, as the number of apps (short
for "applications") for children has grown
exponentially, so have the number of apps aimed at
making kids smarter. Currently, there are over 3,400
education apps available for download at the iTunes
store, with a large number of them targeted for
children between the ages of two and five.”

4) Does time really heal all wounds?
5) What (in MPH) is the speed of light?

In groups of 3-4 Using the resource given
attempt to answer the following questions : -
1) Who invented the World Wide Web ? Sir Tim

2) List 2 features of a “Smart Phone”. Large
screen, always on internet, advanced OS, qwerty
keyboard etc.
3) Who won the FA Cup Final in 1966 ? Everton
4) Does time really heal all wounds? Meh
maybe...wound dependant!
